Farwell lost 69-33 last week to Beaverton. Kate Saute scored 11 points while Jenna McKinley scored six points and Salena DeLeon added five points. Caron White, Nina Bucillli and Kate Saute had five rebounds apiece and Salena De Leon had five steals. Farwell trailed 13-8 after the first quarter, 28-15 at halftime and 47-17 after the third quarter.

 

Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart improved its record to 3-1 on Saturday with a 74-54 victory over Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes. The Irish led Our Lady 25-19 after the first quarter, 40-26 at half-time, 54-46 after the third quarter and had a 20-8 scoring advantage in the final eight minutes. Thomas Krepostman had 16 points for Sacred Heart, followed by Ben Goenner with 12 points, Dustin Neier with 11 points and Kevin Gamble with 10 points.

Cedar Springs boys basketball team has gotten off to a 2-0 start. The Redhawks defeated Wyoming Tri-unity Christian 39-31 in their most decent game Dec. 17. Kyler Marble score 15 points while Brad Brechting added 13 points for Cedar Springs.

 

The winners were up 10-5 after the first quarter, 16-14 at halftime and 29-20 after the third quarter.

McKenzie Breimayer continues to have a strong season for Belding’s girls basketball team.

 

Breimayer scored 19 points on Dec. 17 to lead the Redskins past Grant 65-27 in girls basketball play. Peyton Mount and Greta Wilker scored 12 points apiece for Belding while Katie Wood scored eight points and Monica Baylis had six points.

Kole Hart scored 23 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead Belding past Grant 50-48 in boys basketball action on Dec. 17.

Belding improved its record to 2-1.

Garrett Strotheide had 11 points for Beldng while Tye Wittenbach added 10 points and three rebounds. Nick Price scored six points.

 

Grant was up 15-5 after the first quarter but it was tied 21-21 at halftime and 35-35 after the third quarter. Belding had a 15-13 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter to win the game.

Lowell’s basketball team fell to 1-2 with a 75-48 loss to Grand Rapids Northview last week. Northview improved to 2-0. 

Northview led 19-11 after the first quarter, 38-18 at halftime, 58-28 after the third quarter. Lowell had a 20-17 scoring edge in the final eight minutes. Connor Crawford led Northview with 21 points.

Lowell was led by Gabe Stead with 16 points, Ryan Stevens and Marcus Mailing with eight points apiece and Nicholas Geisen and Matt Beachler with six points apiece.

 

 

Ithaca’s girls basketball team fell to 1-5 with a 53-48 loss to Saginaw Valley Lutheran on Friday.

 

Lacie Mates had 10 points for Ithaca, plus 12 rebounds. Mikayla Borrows had nine points and two steals. Kylie Bentley contributed nine points, eight rebounds and two steals. Kylee Chaffin had six points, 10 rebounds and four assists.

 

Alma’s boys basketball team entered the holiday break at 0-3 following a 51-35 loss to Freeland on the road Wednesday. Freeland was up 13-7 in the first quarter, 25-15 at halftime and 38-25 after the third quarter. Freeland had a 13-0 scoring advantage in the final quarter. Alma was led by Dylan Carl with 10 points.

 

Freeland’s boys basketball team improved its record to 2-2 Friday night with a home victory over Alma 51-35. Freeland was up 13-7 in the first quarter, 25-15 at halftime and 38-25 after the third quarter. Freeland had a 13-0 scoring advantage in the final quarter. For Freeland, Jake Jankoska scored 16 points, followed by Travis Hahn with 13 points and Parker Kubiak with nine. Zak Anderson had three points.

Chippewa Hills had two wrestling teams at the Chippewa Hills Joe Loren Memorial Invitational. The White team finished in 13th place.

Ralph Kenworthy was third at 135 pounds and now has a 9-3 record.

John Spedowski was sixth at 160 pounds.

Kyle Vandenbrooks was seventh at 215 pounds and is 3-3.

 

Trevor Johnson was eighth at 112 pounds and was 9-5.
