Midland High School improved to 3-1 last week with a 45-29 victory over Saginaw Heritage before heading into the holiday break.

 

The game was tied 8-8 after the first quarter but Midland was up 21-13 at halftime and 27-21 after the third quarter and outscored Heritage 18-8 in the fourth. Will Williams led Midland with 16 points, followed by Virgil Walker with nine points and Payton Dewildt with eight. Midland is 3-1.

Saginaw High dropped its first game Saturday 70-65 at Detroit Douglass to fall to 3-1.

Douglass won its first game of the season against two losses.

Saginaw was up 17-15 after the first quarter and 32-29 at halftime, and fell behind 52-46 after the third quarter.

Ronquavious Southward had 15 points and seven steals for Saginaw while Algevon Eichelberger added 12 points and 12 rebounds.

 

Jerry Smith put in 12 points for Saginaw. Keyon Addison had 11 points and Malik Jordan added nine points. David Bradley scored 23 points for Douglass.

Ian Cooper scored 17 points and had 11 rebounds in leading undefeated Greenville past Tri County 76-37 in boys basketball action last week. Greenville was up 25-14 after the first quarter, 44-23 at halftime and 74-33 after the third quarter.

 

Also for Greenville, Stephen Roy had two 3-pointers and had 13 points. Ethan Morris netted 11 points for the Yellow Jackets.

 

Lakeview’s boys basketball team is off to a 3-0 start following a 63-61 victory over Newaygo in Central States Activities Association action last week. Lakeview was up 20-12 after the first quarter but trailed 35-34 at halftime. Lakeview led 54-58 after the third quarter and held back Newaygo in the fourth. Shawn Lindsey had 18 points and 14 rebounds for the Wildcats while Nate Shurlow also had 18 points. Brad Hamlin and Jon Wandel had 11 points apiece.

Montabella fell to 3-2 with a loss to Lakeview 36-33, on Saturday in a game played at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Montabella was up 15-12 after the first quarter but it was tied 20-20 at halftime. Lakeview led 28-25 after the third quarter and outscored Montabella 8-6 in the fourth.

 

Maddie Shurlow netted a 3-pointer at the buzzer to win the game for Lakeview. For Montabella, Taylor Smith scored 15 points while Krista Dawes and Sarah Miller netted seven points apiece for the Mustangs.

Shurlow had seven points for Lakeview. Sadie Massie scored 12 points and Lauren Jaquays had six points.

 

Lakeview is 4-2.

Farwell’s boys basketball team has gotten off to a 2-1 start and enjoyed a recent 39-38 victory over the Gladwin Flying Gs. Farwell trailed 13-11 after the first quarter, and 22-15 halftime. But the Eagles had a strong second half and tied the game 27-27 at the end of the third quarter. Farwell had a 12-11 scoring advantage in the final eight minutes.

 

Farwell was led by Jacob Shell and Ethan Gary with nine points, Javan Medema with eight points and Jacob Garafalo with six points.

 

Farwell lost 69-33 last week to Beaverton. Kate Saute scored 11 points while Jenna McKinley scored six points and Salena DeLeon added five points. Caron White, Nina Bucillli and Kate Saute had five rebounds apiece and Salena De Leon had five steals. Farwell trailed 13-8 after the first quarter, 28-15 at halftime and 47-17 after the third quarter.

 

Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart improved its record to 3-1 on Saturday with a 74-54 victory over Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes. The Irish led Our Lady 25-19 after the first quarter, 40-26 at half-time, 54-46 after the third quarter and had a 20-8 scoring advantage in the final eight minutes. Thomas Krepostman had 16 points for Sacred Heart, followed by Ben Goenner with 12 points, Dustin Neier with 11 points and Kevin Gamble with 10 points.

Cedar Springs boys basketball team has gotten off to a 2-0 start. The Redhawks defeated Wyoming Tri-unity Christian 39-31 in their most decent game Dec. 17. Kyler Marble score 15 points while Brad Brechting added 13 points for Cedar Springs.

 

The winners were up 10-5 after the first quarter, 16-14 at halftime and 29-20 after the third quarter.
