Central Montcalm’s football program will look back at 2013 as a very successful one. The Green Hornets finished fifth in the 10-team Central State Activities Association and had several players on the all-CSAA first team this season including Cory Kindle, a defensive lineman. Kindle was on the second team as an offensive lineman, along with Jacob Palmer. Also on the second team was quarterback Keagan James. Honorable mention players were defensive lineman James Fancett, offensive back Trenton Braman and receiver Tylor Baker.

 

Chippewa Hills’ football program will look back at 2013 as a very successful one. The Warriors finished fourth in the 10-team Central State Activities Association and had several players on the all-CSAA first team this season including receiver Tyler Kelsey, lineman Tyler Williams, linebacker Marcus Merrill and defensive back Hunter Conley. Players on the second team were Matt Deitz at offensive line. The honorable mention list included Marcus Guerrero at linebacker, Quentin Gossett at back and Zach Sellers at defensive line.

Lakeview’s football program will look back at 2013 as a very successful one. The Wildcats finished third in the 10-team Central State Activities Association and had several players on the all-CSAA first team this season including offensive lineman Jared Behrenwald and running back Garrett Cavendish. Defensive player for Lakeview that made the first team were Calin Englund at linebacker, Shawn Lindsey at defensive back and Caleb Ruvalcaba at placekicker.

 

Lakeview was also honored on the second team, Terry Grieser is a defensive lineman who received honors. Wildcats on the honorable mention list were Trevor Bacon at offensive line, John Zuluga-Torres at defensive back, plus Nate Shurlow at quarterback and Brad Hamlin at receiver.

Bay City John Glenn was 2-0 in girls’ bowling conference tournament action  Saturday at Hi-Skore Lanes in West Branch. John Glenn beat Whittemore-Prescott 26-4 and Standish-Sterling 22-8.

 

Aydreonna Pelton bowled a 188 and 216 for a 404 series for John Glenn. Katie Walker had a 177 game. Also for John Glenn, Destiny Kennedy had a 225 and 214 for 439.

 

Bay City John Glenn’s boys’ bowling team was 1-1 in conference tournament action Saturday at Hi-Skore Lanes in West Branch. John Glenn won 27-3 over Standish-Sterling. Pinconning had a 19.5-10.5 victory over John Glenn. Alex Ouelette bowled a 259 the first game and 279 the second game for a 538 series.

 

It was the battle of the boys basketball unbeatens Friday with Okemos improving to 3-0 with a 54-34 victory at Bay City John Glenn. Okemos was up 8-5 after the first quarter, 22-18 at halftime, 36-28 after the third quarter and outscored John Glenn 18-6 in the fourth. Edward Smith scored 19 points for Okemos while James Moore netted 14 and Chaz Richardson added six. John Glenn is 4-1.

 

East Lansing fell to 1-4 in boys basketball with a 74-55 loss to Ann Arbor Huron Friday.  East Lansing trailed 15-11 after the first quarter 38-33 at halftime and 63-47 after the third quarter. Ann Arbor Huron was led by Jalen Thompson with 26 points and seven rebounds. Akil Mitchell scored 19 points for East Lansing.

 

Lansing Eastern improved to 3-1 with a 56-52 boys basketball victory over East Lansing recently. Eastern was up 14-9 after the first quarter, 30-25 at halftime and 42-39 after the third quarter. The Quakers were led by Tyrome Maxwell with 22 points. Lansing Eastern had to overcome the strong offensive efforts of Da’Vontay Haines who scored 28 points.

Lansing Sexton’s girls basketball team fell to 0-5 with a 47-36 loss to Kalamazoo Loy Norrix on Friday. Loy Norrix led 7-4 after the first quarter, 20-6 at halftime and 30-26 after the third quarter. Loy Norrix had a 17-10 scoring advantage in the final quarter to put the game away.

 

Kalee Manning scored 14 points for Sexton while Keyonna Todd added 12 and Eron Howard and Bethany Kyle had four apiece.

Lansing Sexton’s boys basketball team improved its record to 1-2 while handing Kalamazoo Central its first loss of the season Saturday 79-71.

 

Camron Haine scored 19 points to lead the winners. For Central, Jordan Hunt scored 22 points while Orlando Little scored 14, Isiah Livers added 12, Hunter Hale put in 10 and Davarius Williams scored nine points.
