The Bay City All Saints boys basketball team improved to 1-2 with a 66-58 victory over Ubly on the road. All Saints led 13-9 after the first quarter, 38-23 at halftime and 49-41 after the third quarter. Justin Bates scored 23 points and Trey Nesham added 17 points. Nick Hunter had seven rebounds.

The Bay City All Saints girls basketball team fell on Dec. 18 to Vassar 45-20 and is 1-4.

Latonya Wilson had an outstanding night for Vassar with 20 points and seven rebounds. Allison Baney had nine rebounds.

 

For All Saints, Rachel Butch and Cassidy McDonell had six points apiece while Shannon Bates added five points. Megan White grabbed nine rebounds while Kaitlyn Deyarmond had eight and Cassidy McDonell grabbed six.

Big Rapids took fifth place in the Central State Activities Association volleyball standings and was led this season by first team player Lauren Maginnis. Cara Jensen and Madeline White were on the honorable mention list.

 

Lakeview was seventh in the league and led by Estelle Molitor on the first team and Mackenzie Oberlin on the honorable mention list. Central Montcalm had Hannah Hollenbeck, Savannah Case and Ann Karwoski on the honorable mention list.

 

Morley Stanwood led the way with three first-year selections on this year’s volleyball all-Central State Activities Association team. Honorees for the Mohawks, who won the league, were Mekayla Carey, Kayla Rosman and Lindsey Veersma on the first team. Chippewa Hills took third place and placed Hannah Guy and Olivia Wolfe on the first team and Hali Earli and Morgan Kolarz on the honorable mention list.

 

Big Rapids’ hockey team ended the 2013 year with 1-1 tie against Jackson Lumen Christi on Saturday at Ewigleben Ice Arena goalie Joe Templin had 35 saves for Big Rapids’ Brendan Bomay, leading Big Rapids in scoring, finished up for the goal after a shot from Preston Hughes.

 

Morley Stanwood’s football program will look back at 2013 as a rebuilding one. The Mohawks finished ninth in the 10-team Central State Activities Association and had several players on the all-CSAA this season including punter Tim Cairnduff on the first team, and offensive and defensive lineman Damian Dewey and defensive back Chase Huntey on the second team, and linebacker Thomas Carey and defensive lineman Kyle Simkins on the honorable mention list.

 

Big Rapids’ football program will look back at 2013 as a very successful one. The Cardinals finished seventh in the 10-team Central State Activities Association and had several players on the all-CSAA second team this season including receiver and linebacker Jon Spicer, defensive lineman Lucas Armand. Honorable mention players were offensive lineman Alex Johansen and defensive back Mike Tassoni.

 

Central Montcalm’s football program will look back at 2013 as a very successful one. The Green Hornets finished fifth in the 10-team Central State Activities Association and had several players on the all-CSAA first team this season including Cory Kindle, a defensive lineman. Kindle was on the second team as an offensive lineman, along with Jacob Palmer. Also on the second team was quarterback Keagan James. Honorable mention players were defensive lineman James Fancett, offensive back Trenton Braman and receiver Tylor Baker.

 

Chippewa Hills’ football program will look back at 2013 as a very successful one. The Warriors finished fourth in the 10-team Central State Activities Association and had several players on the all-CSAA first team this season including receiver Tyler Kelsey, lineman Tyler Williams, linebacker Marcus Merrill and defensive back Hunter Conley. Players on the second team were Matt Deitz at offensive line. The honorable mention list included Marcus Guerrero at linebacker, Quentin Gossett at back and Zach Sellers at defensive line.

Lakeview’s football program will look back at 2013 as a very successful one. The Wildcats finished third in the 10-team Central State Activities Association and had several players on the all-CSAA first team this season including offensive lineman Jared Behrenwald and running back Garrett Cavendish. Defensive player for Lakeview that made the first team were Calin Englund at linebacker, Shawn Lindsey at defensive back and Caleb Ruvalcaba at placekicker.

 

Lakeview was also honored on the second team, Terry Grieser is a defensive lineman who received honors. Wildcats on the honorable mention list were Trevor Bacon at offensive line, John Zuluga-Torres at defensive back, plus Nate Shurlow at quarterback and Brad Hamlin at receiver.
