Midland Bullock Creek entered the holidays with a 3-0 boys basketball record after a 48-24 win against Ovid Elsie on Dec. 18. Bullock Creek was up 8-7 after the first quarter, 27-12 at halftime and 35-17 after the third quarter. Jordan Dopp had 16 points while Parrish Terburgh put in eight and Alex Fleming had seven for Bullock Creek.

 

Frankenmuth improved to 4-3 with a 65-46 win over Birch Run in girls basketball acton Dec. 18. Frankenmuth led 15-5 after the first quarter, 34-14 at halftime and 48-30 after the third quarter. Keri Frahm scored 19 points for Frankenmuth, while Madison Walter had 16 points, Kayla Brooks added nine points, Brayene Benner had seven points and Kelsy Kujac netted six points.

 

Birch Run’s girls basketball team fell to 4-2 with a 65-46 loss to Frankenmuth on Dec. 18. Birch Run trailed 15-5 after the first quarter, 34-14 at halftime and 48-30 after the third quarter. Savannah Gibson scored 17 points while Kyla Breckenridge netted 11 points for Birch Run. Jillian Coggins had six points while Matalynn Cook, Lacy Storms and Julia Haubenstricker had four points apiece.

 

Birch Run fell to 2-1 with a 49-42 loss to Bridgeport on Dec. 17.  Birch Run led 12-6 after the first quarter and was outscored 14-3 in the second period. It was 20-15, Bridgeport at halftime. Bridgeport led 39-28 after the third quarter. Birch Run had a 14-10 scoring advantage in the final quarter. Eric Naylor had 13 points for Birch Run and Andrew Thompson with 11 points. Zachary Miller scored six points.

Birch Run improved its record in wrestling with a 2-0 clip Dec. 18 over Clio and Macomb Dakota. Birch Run defeated both opponents.

 

Going 2-0 for Birch Run were Drew Cox at 119, Adam Grim at 130, Justin Elliott at 135, Tyler Childs at 145, Mitch Franklin at 152, Jared Elliot at 160 and George Lahaar at 215.

 St. Charles fell to 0-6 with a 37-33 loss to Breckenridge in girls basketball action on Dec. 19. Breckenridge led 11-6 after the first quarter, and 18-17 at halftime. But the Huskies trailed 23-21 after the third quarter. They had a 16-10 scoring advantage in the final period. Marissa Kostick scored nine points and Audrey Pumford added eight points for St. Charles.

 

Breckenridge’s girls basketball team improved to 4-1 with a 37-33 victory on Dec. 19 over St. Charles. Breckenridge led 11-6 after the first quarter, and 18-17 at halftime. But the Huskies trailed 23-21 after the third quarter. They had a 16-10 scoring advantage in the final period. Erika Wendling had 19 points, followed by Gabby Foor with 10 points and Alison Willman with seven points.

 

Breckenridge improved its record to 1-2 while Merrill fell to 0-4 with a 58-32 boys basketball victory on Dec. 17. The Huskies were up 2-6 after the first quarter,  25-17 at halftime and 46-25 after the third quarter. Breckenridge had a 22-8 scoring advantage in the third quarter and 12-7 in the fourth. Keegan Giles scored 23 points for Breckenridge, which included two 3-pointers. Jordan Lumsden had three 3-pointers and was 6-of-6 from the floor for Breckenridge and scored 17 points. Wade SanMiguel scored 10 points. Austin Chamberlin and Bo Collins scored four points apiece.

 

Bay City Central fell to 0-5 in boys basketball action on Dec. 19 with a 82-45 loss to Mount Pleasant. Mount Pleasant was up 22-11 after the first quarter, 38-24 at halftime and 64-40 after the third quarter. Mount Pleasant outscored Central 18-5 in the final eight minutes. Chris Jacobs scored 14 points for Bay City Central while Tyler Wiechec scored nine points, Lennon Gwizdala had six points and Steve Gergey and Josh Billette and five points and Jared Publow had four points. Publow and Cody Barber both had three assists.

Mount Pleasant improved to 3-0 in boys basketball action with an 82-45 victory Dec. 19 over Bay City Central. Mount Pleasant was up 22-11 after the first quarter, 38-24 at halftime and 64-40 after the third quarter. Mount Pleasant outscored Central 18-5 in the final eight minutes.

 

Anton Cotton and Kalebb Perry scored 12 points apiece while Tim Wilson had 10 points. T.J. Johnson and Jaleel Hogan scored nine points apiece for the Oilers. Aaron Leasher and Austin Ferguson had eight points apiece. Matt Trip scored six points while Jonny Clark had five points.
