Sanford Meridian improved to 4-0 in boys basketball action Friday with a 49-30 victory over Midland Bullock Creek. Meridian was up 13-12 after the first quarter, 23-21 at halftime and 38-21 after the third quarter. Meridian had a 15-0 scoring advantage in the third and 11-9 in the fourth.

 

Kevin Scheibert scored 16 points and Jacob Ham added 15 for Meridian.

 

Birch Run was second at the New Lothrop Wrestling Invitational on Saturday while New Lothrop was third. DeWitt was eighth, Greenville 10th, Holt 13th, Mason 16th, Bullock Creek 17th, Montrose 18th, Chippewa Hills 19th and Sanford Meridian 20th. For Birch Run, Jerry Fenner was first at 125 pounds and Mitch Franklin third at 152.

Bay City Western finished first in the 22-team New Lothrop Wrestling Invitational on Saturday. Birch Run was second and New Lothrop was third.

 

For BC Western, Jacob Alarie at 215 pounds and Tom Schoenherr at 135 were second; Mike Rojas at 130 was third, Noah Schoenherr at 112 was fourth, Colby Moore at 119, Blake Jackson at 125 and Zach Davis at 145 were fifth.

Ithaca’s wrestling team defeated Shepherd 42-33 and Bay City John Glenn 42-30 in recent wrestling action.

 

Going undefeated for Ithaca were Dawson Sherman at 103, Branton Wymer at 119, James O’Boyle at 145, Derek Teed at 152, Jonah Loomis at 171 and Jaron Czachowrski at 189.

Justin Honsinger recorded his 100th career win for Hemlock in going 5-0 at Saturday’s Shepherd Invitational

Hemlock was 4-1 with its only loss being a 49-27 verdict to Chesaning. Hemlock beat Big Rapids 57-12, Pine River 49-30, Shepherd 48-35 and Bath 60-18.

 

Going 5-0 for Hemlock were Landon Honsinger at 119, Justin Honsinger at 130, Steven Hinkton at 189 and Cody Russell at 285. Tyler Near at 112, Andrew Garchow at 152 and Alberto Flore at 215 were 4-1.

Chesaning went 5-0 to win the Shepherd Invitational in Saturday wrestling action. Chesaning had wins over Gaylord 54-21, Shepherd 49-27, Lansing Sexton 68-6, Pine River 58-18 and Hemlock 49-27.

 

Going 5-0 for Cedar Springs were Trevor Patterson at 135 and 140, Jared Weisenberger at 145 and 152, Justin Sloan at 171 and Skyler Nathan at 152 and 160. Going 4-1 were Esai Garcia at 103, Keith Wirostek at 119, Kolin McAlpine at 125, Kegan McAlpine at 140 and Bryan Moore at 140 and 145.

Big Rapids’ wrestling team was 2-2 on Saturday at the Shepherd Bluejay Invitational, defeating Fulton and Gaylord.

 

Alim Muhammad and Nate Weckesser were undefeated on the day for the Cards. Chase Raglin, Desaun Griffen  and Nick Worden all had just one loss for Big Rapids.

Chippewa Hills’ wrestling team was second Saturday at the Allendale Invitational.

Allendale took first place.

 

For Chip Hills, Zach King at 119, Slade Todd at 135 and Eric Russell at 171 took first place. Kevin Briscoe took second at 112 and Kaden Ellis was third at 112. Keaton Zuern at 103 and Mason Dey at 145 were fourth. Mike Felix was fifth at 125 and Austin Spedowski at 130 and Aaron Boid at heavyweight took sixth.

Rockford was third at 3,692 in girls bowling for OK Red pre-conference tournament action on Saturday.

Sydney Weiler of Rockford was fourth with a 516. Also for Rockford, Kaitlin Bird was sixth with a 510, Melissa Main eighth with 504, Courtney Mais 15th with 464 and Naomi Pluger 18th with 415.

 

Hudsonville won the tournament.

Rockford’s boys bowling team finished second Saturday n the OK Red pre-conference tournament at Spectrum Lanes.

Grand Haven had a final score of 4,829 to easily outpoint second-place Rockford with a 4,551.

Rockford was led by Jordan Kaufman, who was on the all-tournament team at 629.

“We came out a little rusty,” said Rockford coach Paul Bellgraph. “I thought we started out OK with a 970 (in the first regular game). We did OK in the Baker games. It was a tough shot out here.”

 David Miller for Rockford was ninth overall with a 613. Eric Buck was 13th at 575 and Owen Webber 14th at 573.
