Midland Dow’s girls basketball team improved to 7-2 with a  44-25 victory on Wednesday. Mount Pleasant led 8-7 after the first quarter but trailed 24-23 at halftime. Dow had a 23-5 scoring advantage in the final quarter. 

 

For Dow, Ellie Taylor scored 10 points while Carlee McGee had seven points, Jenna Query had five rebounds, Lexi Astrike added seven points and Carly D’Alessandro had five boards.

 

Mount Pleasant’s girls basketball team fell to 1-7 with a 44-25 loss to Midland Dow on Wednesday. Mount Pleasant led 8-7 after the first quarter but trailed 24-23 at halftime. Dow had  a 23-5 scoring advantage in the final quarter. Halli Taylor scored six points for Mount Pleasant while Mary Courser, Katleyn Hartman and Hannah Murch scored four apiece.

 

Midland Dow fell to 4-3 with a 67-39 loss to Mount Pleasant on Thursday at Mount Pleasant. The Oilers fired out to a 23-8 lead after the first quarter and were up 34-21 at halftime and 48-24 after the third quarter.  Evan Marquardt score 12 points for Dow while Alec Marty added seven points.

 

Mount Pleasant’s boys basketball team improved to 5-1 overall with a 67-39 win on Thursday over Midland Dow. The Oilers fired out to a 23-8 lead after the first quarter and were up 34-21 at halftime and 48-24 after the third quarter. Jaleel Hogan scored 18 points and had 17 rebounds for Mount Pleasant, followed by Anton Cotton with 11 points, Aaron Leasher with 10 points and Tim Wilson with nine points.

 

Ithaca’s girl basketball team fell to 2-6 overall on Thursday with a 52-32 loss to Carrollton. Carrollton was up 9-4 after the first quarter, 26-16 at halftime and 37-28 after the third quarter. Carrollton had a 15-4 advantage in the fourth quarter. Liz Bentley scored seven points for Ithaca, followed by Mikayla Borrows with six points, Kyle Chaffin with five points and Brooklyn Dolloff with four points.

 

Merrill fell to 0-5 on Wednesday with an 86-20 loss to Ithaca.  Ithaca had quarter leads of 28-8, 59-12 and 76-20 and outscored Merrill 10-0 in the final quarter. Hunter DeBeau scored eight points and Jaden Reiber had six points for Merrill.

 

Ithaca’s boys basketball team improved to 4-0 on Wednesday with an 86-20 victory over Merrill. Ithaca had quarter leads of 28-8, 59-12, and 76-20 and outscored Merrill 10-0 in the final quarter. Spence DeMull scored 14 points while Eli Villalobos had 13 points, Levi Lehman scored 12 points, Jacob Smith added 11 points, Josh Hafner had 10 points, Logan Hessbrook put in nine points and Travis Smith added eight points.

Hemlock was 0-2 in wrestling action at Midland on Wednesday, falling 42-36 to Chesaning and 45-33 to Alma.

 

Going 2-0 for Hemlock were Stu Massa at 103, Landon Honsinger at 119, Justin Honsinger at 130, Steven Hingston at 215 and Cody Russell at 285.

Chesaning was 2-0 in wrestling action at Midland on Wednesday. Chesaning beat Hemlock 42-36 and Bullock Creek 54-18. Going 2-0 for Chesaning were Esai Garcia at 112, Kolin McAleine at 125, Bryan Moore at 140, Jared Weienberger at 145 and Justin Sloan at 171.

 

Four Swartz Creek wrestlers were medalists Saturday at the St. Louis Invitational.  J.T. Mullins was first at 112 pounds, Saben Spangler second at 119, Chase Bates third at 125 and Bradley Gilson fourth at 103. St. Louis won the tournament and Montabella was second.
