Breckenridge’s girl basketball team fell to Saginaw Michigan Lutheran Seminary 44-42 Saturday night. Lutheran Seminary was up 14-12 after the first quarter but trailed 25-18 at halftime and 30-19 after the third quarter. But Seminary outscored Breckenridge 25-12 in the final eight minutes. Erika Wendling and Emily Chapin scored 15 points each and Alison Willman had six.

Jessica Freibe netted 15 points while Kaitlyn Cole and Amanda Schoch netted nine apiece. Emily Neumann and Jessica Riggs had four apiece.

 

Saginaw Michigan Lutheran Seminary Friday night had a 78-54 boys basketball win over Breckenridge. Seminary is now 4-2. Seminary led 16-9 after the first quarter, 39-19 at halftime and 60-29 after the third quarter. Andrew Schroeder had a big night for the winners with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Sam Hirsh had 14 points while Gabe Plocher netted 12 points and Nate Lindloff had 11 points, four steals and four assists. Jason Spaude netted seven points.

 

Breckenridge fell to 3-3 overall with a 78-54 girls basketball loss to Saginaw Michigan Lutheran Seminary Friday night. Seminary led 16-9 after the first quarter, 39-19 at halftime and 60-29 after the third quarter. Keegan Giles scored 16 points while Cam Foster had eight and Baylee Stoneman and Wade SanMiguel netted seven points apiece.

St. Charles lost 63-46 to Saginaw Valley Lutheran in Tri-Valley West action on Friday. It was 17-10 in favorite of Valley Lutheran after the first quarter, 37-14 at halftime and 52-28 after the third period. St. Charles had an 18-11 advantage in the final quarter, but it was too late. Kyle Clark had 17 points, Dustin Pumford 11 and Chase Ruhlig eight points for St. Charles.

Clare’s wrestling team lost to Gaylord’s B squad 40-39 Thursday night. Michael Evers at 125 pounds got things rolling and pinned his opponent to put Clare on the board. Braxton Gomez at 145, Emery at 160, Eric Litke at 171 and Brandon Ayris at 189 all pinned their opponents. Hart Smalley wrestled an extremely tough match and beat out his opponent at 215 pounds 6-3. At 285, Bob Green won by void.

The Clare varsity wrestling team headed to Sanford Meridian High School on Thursday to kick off the Jack Pine Conference season and lost to Meridian 46-27. The Pioneers wrestled against Meridian in the first dual of the night. Clare had a tough time getting rolling, from 103 to 152, but Logan Emery won at 160 beating Jess Levier 10-5. Brandon Ayris at 171 and Hart Smalley at 189 pinned their opponents in the first period. Brenden Hensley won by disqualification at 215 pounds.

 “We had some outstanding matches that were wrestled, and I think the Jack Pine Conference championships are going to be very interesting,” said Kyle McKay, Clare coach.

Shepherd fell to 2-5 on Wednesday with a 52-48 loss to Alma, which netted 38 points from Maddy Seeley, in girls basketball action. Alma trailed 15-14 after the first quarter but led 24-23 at halftime. Shepherd went up 38-34 after the third quarter but Alma had an 18-10 scoring advantage in the fourth. Hannah Yesmunt netted 16 points while Katie Crawford added 13 and Rachel Travis had 11.

 

Maddy Seeley had 38 points and five rebounds in leading Alma to a 52-48 victory over Shepherd in Wednesday girls basketball action. Alma trailed 15-14 after the first quarter but led 24-23 at halftime. Shepherd went up 38-34 after the third quarter but Alma had an 18-10 scoring advantage in the fourth. Lexi Morton and Alicia Seeley scored seven points apiece. Morton had six rebounds. Alma is 3-3.
