Belding’s wrestling team was second in action at Allendale Wednesday. Marion Krieger won a major decision at 119 pounds for Belding 21-12 over Angel Perez against Allendale. Nate Cooley won 3-2 at 125 over Jackson Lambdin. Jesse Scheidel had a pin in 5:06 over Ryan Wynsma at 130. Brady Phelps at 140 won 9-1 over Clayton VanFerowe. Neil McCully won 9-4 at 189 pounds over Jon Nielsen while Blake Rodarmer had a 7-2 decision at 171.
Midland Dow’s girls basketball team improved its record to 8-1 with a 55-38 girls basketball victory over Flint Carman-Ainsworth Friday night. Dow was up 13-8 after their first quarter, 28-17 at halftime and 42-31 after the third quarter, and had a 13-7 scoring advantage in the final eight minutes.
Emily Lyman scored 13 points for Dow while Ellie Taylor added 10 points. Jenna Queary had eight points.
Flint Carman-Ainsworth improved to 6-1 with a 65-59 victory over Midland Dow Friday. Carman-Ainsworth had quarter leads of 17-12 and 30-26. It was tied 43-43 after the third quarter. Carman-Ainsworth had a 22-16 advantage in the fourth quarter.
For Dow, Jon Borke had 16 points and nine rebounds while Evan Marquardt added 14 points and six boards, and Alex Marty had 11 points, five assists and two 3-pointers. Austin Deiters had three 3-pointers and 12 points.
Saginaw Heritage defeated Flint Southwestern 29-1 in boys bowling action on Saturday. Heritage won all the Baker games, 226-152; 144-91 and 370-243. In the regular games it was Heritage over Flint SW 848-657 and 929-552. Derrick Norman at 233 and Ray Eddy IV at 192 had high scores in the first game. Heritage won the second game 929-552. Morris Pruitt at 287, Eddy at 188 and Tyler Scott at 184 had high games.
Saginaw Heritage defeated Bay City Central 21-9 in boys bowling action on Saturday. In the first Baker game, Heritage lost 193-192. Heritage beat BCC 180-154 and 372-347 the next two Baker games. In the first Peterson game, BCC beat Heritage 999-911 and BCC won the second game 1,110-1,026. Morris Pruitt, Tyler Scott, Ben Kastros and Derrick Norman had high games of 192, 189, 187 and 181 for Heritage in the first game. Pruitt and Scott both bowled 228s, Adam Clauss had a 213 and Travis Taylor 193.
Lansing Catholic defeated Corunna 76-43 in boys basketball action Friday night. Lansing Catholic led 20-14 after the first quarter, 34-24 at halftime and 52-31 after the third quarter. Lansing Catholic had a 24-12 edge in the final eight minutes. Mikhail Myles had 13 points and 10 rebounds for Corunna while Michael Petersen had 13 points and M.J. Myles added eight points and eight rebounds.
Greenville fell to 4-2 with an 88-55 loss to Cedar Springs Friday night. Cedar Springs had quarter leads of 17-16, 46-32 and 63-39. The Red Hawks had a 25-16 scoring edge in the final quarter. Ian Cooper and Ethan Morris both had nine points for Greenville.
Cam Ling scored 26 points to lead undefeated Cedar Springs, 6-0, past Greenville Friday night 88-55.

Alma’s wrestling team went 4-1 at its home tournament on Saturday.
Alma beat Manistee/New Lothrop B team 48-27, Dansville 45-26, Perry 37-30. and Onstead 44-36. The only loss was to Chippewa Hills 57-19.
The Gatorade Company, in collaboration with USA TODAY High School Sports, has announced Kirsten Olling of Breckenridge High School as its 2013-14 Gatorade Michigan Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year.
The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the racecourse. Now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year award to be announced in January, Olling joins an elite alumni association of past state award- winners.
Olling won four Division 4 state titles. She was eighth at the Foot Locker Midwest Regional championships in 17:52.
“Kirsten has run every day since starting high school, and makes sacrifices to accomplish the goals she has set for herself and the team,” said Breckenridge coach Royce Humm said in a statement. “She leads by example and wears her heart on her sleeve. She pushes her limits every day.”
Olling joins Gatorade Michigan Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year Katie Haines (2007-08, Rockford) as area athletes who have won the cross country award since its inception in 2007.
