Shepherd improved to 2-5 overall with a 44-27 win over Chesaning in Wednesday boys basketball action. Shepherd had quarter leads of 6-5, 20-10 and 29-16, and had a 15-11 scoring edge in the final quarter. Jesse Holmes scored 13 points for Shepherd, followed by Andrew Sura with nine points, Mason Brannigan with eight points, Toren Sanchez with five points and Lucas Doyle with four.

Big Rapids Crossroads is 2-4 overall and 2-3 in the WMD League after a 50-49 loss to Manistee Catholic Central on Saturday. The game was tied 44-44 going into overtime.

 

Joe Balanda had 12 points and eight rebounds for Crossroads. Justin Thorne added nine points while Larumie Goette had nine points and seven rebounds.

 

Big Rapids’ girls basketball team fell to 3-5 overall and 3-3 in the Central State Activities Association with a 62-55 loss to Holton Monday night. Chloe Kinnally had 18 points for Big Rapids while Alexis Lyman put in 10 points. Alexis Pylman had 13 rebounds and three steals. Aliza Hengesbach had six rebounds and three steals for Big Rapids.

Big Rapids Crossroads defeated Evart on Monday in girls basketball action 50-30.

 

Crossroads was up 33-11 at halftime. Malory Carlson led the Cougars with 22 points, 11 rebounds, five steals and four assists while Kaitlyn Reed had eight points and four rebounds. Aubrey Angell had five steals.

Morley Stanwood lost to Chippewa Hills 58-56 on Monday and fell from the ranks of the unbeaten. They are 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the CSAA.

The Warriors were up 10-9 after the first quarter, 28-18 at halftime and 35-33 after the third quarter. Morley Stanwood outscored Chip Hills 23-13 the final eight minutes but it wasn’t enough.

 

Lindsey Veersma scored 20 points for the Mohawks.

Chippewa Hills’ girls basketball team improved to 5-1 in the CSAA after a 58-56 upset victory over previously undefeated Morley Stanwood Monday.

 

The Warriors were up 10-9 after the first quarter, 28-18 at halftime and 35-33 after the third quarter. Morley Stanwood outscored Chip Hills 23-13 the final eight minutes but it wasn’t enough. Kendall Boone scored 18 points for the Warriors while Hannah Guy had 16, Olivia Wolfe added 11 and Brooke Lewandowski added nine.

Morley Stanwood was up 19-11 after the first quarter, 31-22 at halftime and 43-40 after the third quarter. The Mohawks had a 21-12 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter to cinch the win.

 

Hunter Conley scored 17 points for the Warriors while Austin Issette netted 11 points and Michael Todd added seven.

Tim Cairnduff scored 27 points to lead Morley Stanwood to a 64-52 victory over Chippewa Hills in boys basketball action on Tuesday. The Mohawks improved to 4-3 overall and 4-2 in the CAA.

Morley Stanwood was up 19-11 after the first quarter, 31-22 at halftime and 43-40 after the third quarter. The Mohawks had a 21-12 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter to cinch the win.

 

Cairnduff had three field goals and three triples for 27 points. He was 12-of-12 from the free-throw line. Andrew Sackett added 13 points.

Kailey Hunt had 12 points while Aliza Hengesbach netted 11 points and Ashley Seath added eight points.

Hannah Guy had 26 points while Kendall Boone added 13 points and Callee Stirn had 11 points.
