Chippewa Hills fell to 1-3 in the Central State Activities Association and 1-4 overall with a 77-53 loss to Big Rapids Tuesday night. Big Rapids was up 22-15 after the third quarter, 46-32 at halftime and 64-45 after the third quarter. Hunter Conley scored 16 points for Chippewa Hills while Michael Todd netted nine points and Austin Issette and Luke Recker added seven points apiece.

 

Big Rapids improved to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the Central State Activities Association with a 77-53 boys basketball victory Tuesday night. Big Rapids was up 22-15 after the third quarter, 46-32 at halftime and 64-45 after the third quarter. Quinn Tyson had seven field goals and three 3-pointers while shooting 8-of-10 from the line for 31 points. Austin Hayes had three field goals and three 3-pointers for 15 points. Kyle Brady and Jake Hayes scored seven points apiece.

Sanford Meridian fell to 3-4 with a 69-32 loss to Clare in girls basketball action on Tuesday. Clare was up 40-21 at halftime and 62-24 after the third quarter.

 

Sarah Stockford had seven points, Madi Cassiday six points, Blake Garner five points and Kenzie Hall and Taylor Brooks four points apiece.

Clare’s girls basketball team defeated Sanford Meridian 69-32 in girls basketball action Tuesday night to improve its record to 6-1. Clare was up 40-21 at halftime and 62-24 after the third quarter.

 

Lindsay Winter scored 24 points while Kenzie Humphrey had 14 points and Corrine Wezensky 10 points for Clare.

Saginaw Valley Lutheran improved to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the Tri-Valley Conference with a 84-72 boys basketball victory Tuesday night over Carrollton. Valley Lutheran led 29-18 after the first quarter, 45-32 at halftime and 61-50 after the third quarter. Valley Lutheran had a 23-22 scoring advantage in the final eight minutes.

For Valley Lutheran, Rylan Appold had 20 points, followed by Nick Howard with 19 points, Josh Appold with 13 points, Logan Gatza with 12 points and Blake Mauer with 10 points.

 

Nick Howard had five rebounds, while Rylan Appold had six steals, Josh Appold four steals and Maurer three steals. Gatza, and Rylan and Josh Appold had four assists apiece.

 

Morrice’s girls basketball team improved to 5-1 on Thursday with a 55-24 win over Genesee. Morrice was up 10-7 after the first quarter, 27-12 at halftime and 42-15 after the third quarter. Morrice also had a 13-5 scoring advantage in the fourth. Courtney Wolf scored 23 points and had three rebounds for Morrice while Madison Munro added eight points. Barbie Broomfield had 10 rebounds.

 

Griffin Lewis scored 21 points and had 10 rebounds to lead Morrice past Genesee 63-35. Genesee is at 0-4 while Morrice has a 3-1 record. Also for Morrice, Ronnie Hubble and Cody Rivers scored 10 points apiece,  while Colin Lewis scored seven points and had four rebounds. Garrett McPherson and Dakota Ward had six points apiece.

 

Breckenridge’s boys basketball team improved to 2-2 on Friday with a 43-40 victory over Montabella. Breckenridge was up 10-8 after the first quarter, 20-16 at halftime and 29-17 after the third quarter. Montabella had a 23-14 scoring advantage in the final quarter. Keegan Giles scored 17 points to lead Breckenridge while Austin Chamberlin had 12 points and Wade SanMiguel added six.

Vestaburg fell to 3-2 in girls basketball action on Friday with a 51-27 loss to Breckenridge. Breckenridge was up 18-7 after the first quarter, 26-10 at halftime and 43-20 after the third quarter. Breckenridge had an 8-7 scoring advantage in the final quarter.

 

Shana Fisk led Vestaburg with eight points.

Breckenridge improved to 5-1 in girls basketball action on Friday with a 51-27 victory over Vestaburg. Breckenridge was up 18-7 after the first quarter, 26-10 at halftime and 43-20 after the third quarter. Breckenridge had an 8-7 scoring advantage in the final quarter.

Erika Wendling scored 15 points for Breckenridge, followed by Alison Willman with 14 points and Emily Chapin with 13.
