Bay City Western scored a pair of wins on Wednesday in wrestling action at Owosso. Western topped John Glenn 58-13 and Owosso 49-27. Wrestlers for Western that went 2-0 were Blake Jackson at 125, Mike Rojas at 130 Tom Shoenherr at 140, Chris Schoenherr at 145, Zach Davis at 152, Noland Davis at 171, Cody Okes at 189 and Jacob Alarie 215.

Bath’s wrestling team was 13th in the Black Hawk Invitational on Saturday at Leslie. Bath’s performance came from Chris Root at 140 pounds. He lost in the title match on a 23-8 technical fall to Zehlin Storr of Leslie.

 

Lansing Everett finished 12th out of 16 teams in the 14-team Black Hawk Invitational on Saturday at Leslie. Everett’s best performance came from Austin Buzzo at 145 pounds with a 9-3 major decision over Corey Johnson 9-1 in the title match.

 

Owosso’s wrestling team took sixth place out of 14 team in Saturday’s Black Hawk Invitational at Leslie. Manchester had 262.5 points compared to 130.5 for Perry for first and second. Keegan Gute of Owosso placed second at 119 pounds, losing 19-4 in the finals to Kanen Storr of Leslie.

 

Lansing Eastern’s wrestling team was third in the 14-team Black Hawk Invitational in Leslie on Saturday. Manchester had 262.5 points compared to 130.5 for Perry for first and second. Eastern had two wrestlers make it to the finals. Jeff Mills beat Alex Lopez at 215 pounds with a 3-2 decision.  Patrick Stoufer was pinned a 1:50 pounds in the 285-pound title match.

Perry finished second place behind Manchester in the Black Hawk Invitational in Leslie on Saturday.

Manchester had 262.5 points compared to 130.5 for Perry in the 14-team field.

 

Kyle Smith of Perry was second at 135 pounds, losing on a pin to Matt Munson of Manchester in 2:50. Also for Perry, Kolten Laurer was second at 152, losing in the finals to Eric Coval of Manchester with an 18-7 decision. Also for Perry, Alex Proudfoot lost to Michael Godling in the 171-pound weight class on a pin in 5:30.

 

Alma’s wrestling team finished eighth on Saturday at the Black Hawk Invitational in Leslie. Manchester took first place. Boyd Hubbard led the Alma attack with first place at 160 pounds, beating Austin Rathbun of Manchester 18-7 in the title match. Alex Lopez took second at 215 pounds, losing to Jeff Mills of Lansing Eastern 3-2 in the title match.

Lakeview’s undefeated boys basketball string has ended.

The Wildcats fell to 7-1 overall and 8-1 in the Central State Activities Association with a 77-62 loss to Reed City on Wednesday.

The Wildcats were down 20-16 after the first quarter and 40-33 at halftime. They trailed 51-46 after the third quarter and were outscored 26-16 in the fourth.

 

Nate Shurlow led Lakeview with 18 points. Shawn Lindsey had 15 points for Lakeview.

 

Carson City-Crystal’s girls basketball team improved its record to 19-1 with a 34-23 victory on Thursday over Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart. Mackenzie Geister had the hot hand for CC-C with 16 points and eight rebounds. Makayla Duflo put in 15 points for the winners who had a 27-10 halftime lead.

 

Montabella is 10-6 in wrestling after losing to Carson City-Crystal 54-24 and defeating Bath 37-18 last Wednesday in Central Michigan Athletic Conference action. Going 2-0 for the night for Montabella were Dustin Scott at 130, Mike Hyde at 145, Joey Durham at 160, Jonny Durham at 171 and Dan Davidson at 285.
