Grand Ledge’s girls basketball team improved to 7-0 in the CAAC Blue and 9-2 overall with a 64-45 win over Holt on Jan 24. Grand Ledge was tied with Holt 14-14 after the first quarter but led 29-21 at halftime and 51-30 after the third quarter. Hannah Orwat scored 22 points for Grand Ledge followed by Cori Crocker with 12 points and Codie Drake with eight points.

 

Holt fell to 10-2 and 5-2 in the CAAC Blue with a 60-54 loss to Holt on Tuesday. Grand Ledge had leads of 12-8 and 23-17 after the first two quarters. Holt led 37-36 after the third quarter. Grand Ledge had a 24-17 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter. Colin Jones scored 15 points for Holt while Don’quall Jackson put in 10, Jaron Faulds had eight, Tyrell Williams netted seven, and Derick Glass and Trent Stone had six points apiece.

Cassell Jones scored 16 points for Grand Ledge, followed by JT Houghton and Malek Adams with 14 points apiece.

 

Okemos fell to Lansing Eastern 60-54 in boys basketball action on Tuesday. Okemos was up 14-11 after the first quarter, 23-22 at halftime and 40-33 after the third quarter. Okemos was led by Darius Morris with nine points, James Moore with eight and Connor George with seven.

Lansing Eastern put together a 27-14 scoring advantage in the final eight minutes en route to a 60-54 boys basketball victory over Okemos on Tuesday. Okemos was up 14-11 after the first quarter, 23-22 at halftime and 40-33 after the third quarter.

 

Lansing Eastern had five field goals, one 3-pointer and was 8-of-13 from the floor for 21 points. Dre Dentmond scored 12 points while Dontre Garrett and Tyrome Maxwell scored nine points apiece.

 

Ionia’s Taylor Bovee has hit the 1,000-point total. Bovee hit it right on the nose Tuesday with 14 points in Tuesday’s 55-35 victory over Lansing Catholic. Sarah Swartz had 10 points for Ionia. Ionia was up 13-2 after the first quarter, 29-14 at halftime and 38-21 after the third quarter and had a 17-14 scoring advantage in the fourth.

 

Roscommon beat Clare 48-31 in Jack Pine Conference dual wrestling action on Wednesday.  Bob Green for Clare at 285 netted a pin over Nathan Thornton in 42 seconds, but then Roscommon would quickly rebound with points from void at 103, and pins at 112 and 119. Michael Evers pinned Jessica Morton for Clare but Antonio Bastuba was quickly pinned by Matt Letson to give back the points. Giving up voids at 135 and 140, Clare was down 30-12. Zach Betzer and Chris Ayris both followed at 145 and 152 respectively but were pinned by their opponents to put Roscommon up 48-12. Clare battled back and got pins from Emery at 160 pounds, a major decision by Eric Litke at 171 pounds, a tech fall from Brandon Ayris at 189, and another major decision by Brenden Hensley at 215.

Clare defeated Farwell 34-32 in wrestling action on Wednesday. Farwell voided to Brenden Hensley at 215 followed by a major decision by Bob Green at heavyweight over Austin Hawley, to put Clare on the board 10-0. Farwell rebounded and took six points with a pin at 119 over Alyssa Boberg, a tech fall over Michael Evers at 125 by freshmen Glenn Beardsley, and a pin for Kurt Meister over Antonio Bastuba at 130. There were double voids at 135, void from Clare to Farwell at 140 and then a forfeit from Farwell to Clare at 145 to keep Farwell in front 23-22. Garrett McQuiston of Farwell pinned Chris Ayris at 152. Logan Emery bounced back and pinned Anthony Love in 36 seconds. Eric Litke sustained a 9-3 loss to Tristen Zienkiewicz putting Farwell ahead 32-28. Brandon Ayris  pinned Nate Carlon to give the Pioneers the final six points they needed.

Swartz Creek’s wrestling team was 2-2 Saturday in the Goodrich Invitational. Swartz Creek defeated Grosse Pointe 53-27 and Clarkston 39-36 and lost to Grand Blanc 54-24 and Goodrich 60-15.

 

Top wrestlers for Swartz Creek were Bradley Gilson at 103 pounds and Saben Spangler at 119 and 125.

 

Bay City John Glenn was 0-2 at Owosso in wrestling action on Wednesday. John Glenn lost to Owosso 52-32 and to Bay City Western 58-13. Going 2-0 for John Glenn were Sam Woods at 112, Logan Mlujeak at 135 and Ethan Smith at 160.
