Lowell’s boys basketball team improved to 4-6 with a 53-52 win over Grand Rapids Christian on Wednesday. It marked Lowell’s first ever win over GR Christian in varsity boys basketball. Ryan Stevens led Lowell with 18 points while Matt Beachler scored 17 points, and Austin Brannigan put in eight points.

 

Lowell’s girls basketball team fell 53-42 to Grand Rapids Christian on  Wednesday. GR Christian led 13-10 after the first quarter, 26-18 at halftime and 40-30 after the third quarter. The winners had a 13-12 edge in the fourth. Kate Montgomery and Aubreigh Steed had 16 points apiece while Katie Holzhueter netted five points.

 

Cedar Springs suffered its first boys basketball loss of the season Jan. 20 to Comstock Park 73-69 in overtime. Comstock Park was up 14-12 after the first quarter and 27-24 at halftime. It was 50-43 after the third quarter. Brad Brechting scored 22 points for Cedar Springs while Cam Link had 15 points and David Kearney added 12 points. Nick Krajewski and Aaron Mabie had six points apiece.

 

Lane Ledford scored 24 points in leading Central Montcalm to a 70-53 CSAA victory Tuesday over Hesperia. Central led 24-18 after the first quarter, 37-27 at halftime and 53-43 after the third frame. Central had a 17-10 scoring advantage in the final eight minutes. Jake Ebels and Todd Switzer had 11 points apiece and Jesse Hoffman put in 10 points. JJ Dulbandzhyan and Gabe Nichols had six points apiece.

 

Ashley Seath collected 20 points and four rebounds and made 16 of her points in the first half in a 40-37 Big Rapids win over Central Montcalm on Thursday. Alexis Lyman netted eight points while Reba Bowen had three steals. Big Rapids is 4-9 overall and 4-7 in the CSAA.

 

Morley Stanwood improved to 12-2 overall and 10-2 in the league with a 58-28 win over Hesperia on Thursday. Brooke Huested had 19 points and 10 rebounds while Lindsey Veersma put in 11 points and had four steals and three assists. Marissa Frye had nine points and five steals.

Big Rapids Crossroads improved to 11-1 overall and 8-09 in the west Michigan D League with a 61-25 win over Onekama on Thursday. Crossroads had a 38-12 halftime lead.

 

Malory Carlson led Crossroads with 15 points, nine rebounds and six steals while Kaela Brooks had 14 points, six steals and three assists. Katie Haner had 10 points and five rebounds for Crossroads while Alyssa Larson had six points and 13 boards.

 

Chippewa Hills’ girls basketball team improved to 10-2 overall and 9-2 in the CSAA with a 50-38 victory over White Cloud on Thursday night. The Warriors trailed 12-9 after the first quarter and 28-22 at halftime. But they outscored the Indians 11-9 in the third quarter and 17-2 in the fourth. Callee Stirn scored 13 points to lead the Warriors, followed by Hannah Guy with 10 points and Olivia Wolfe with nine.

 

Clare improved to 8-3 with a 66-55 win over Harrison on Wednesday. Clare  was up 15-13 after the first quarter but trailed 27-24 at halftime. Clare was up 39-33 after the third quarter and outscored Harrison 27-22 in the fourth. Colton Punches had 18 points in the game for Clare while Scott Smith scored 13 points and Conner Clickner and Mason Packard scored nine apiece. Sam Adkins had six points. Punches had nine rebounds while  Conner Clickner and Scott Smith had five apiece. Clickner had four assists.

 

Holt fell to 5-2 in the league and 10-2 overall with a 64-45 girls basketball loss to Grand Ledge on Jan. 24. Grand Ledge was tied with Holt 14-14 after the first quarter but led 29-21 at halftime and 51-30 after the third quarter. Kamrin Ree had 13 points, Tara Lierman 11 points and Khadeja Anthony 10 points for Holt.
