Montabella’s girls basketball team defeated Ashley 69-34 on Thursday. Sarah Miller had the hot hand for Montabella with 29 points while Taylor Smith aded 21 points. Miller also had 12 rebounds compared to 10 for Smith. Smith also contributed six assists, five blocks and four steals.
DeWitt’s boys basketball team beat Hastings on Tuesday 45-34. DeWitt led 14-7 after the first quarter, 33-18 at halftime and 35-25 after the third quarter. Both teams scored 10 points in the fourth. Joshua Borta scored 11 points while Andrew Eible had 10 points and Evan Conn added nine points for DeWitt. Evan Smith put in five points and Justice Shankel had four points.

Bay City John Glenn improved to 7-3 overall with a 52-47 (overtime) victory over Tawas Area on Friday. Tawas Area led 12-4 after the first quarter and 28-19 at halftime. John Glenn had an 11-2 scoring advantage in the third quarter and both teams were at 38-38 at the end of regulation. John Glenn had a 14-9 advantage in the overtime. Tyler Robbins led John Glenn Glenn with 27 points, while Derrek Clyde added 10 points and six assists, David Dunn had six points, five rebounds and three blocks. Robbins had two blocks and six rebounds. Kristen Valliere had six assists and four rebounds.
Midland fell to Saginaw 72-65 on Tuesday in boys basketball action. Saginaw was up 19-14 after the first quarter, 32-30 at halftime and 47-40 after the third quarter. Both teams had 25 points in the final quarter. Will Williams scored 19 points for Midland, including three 3-pointers, while Jacob Dotal scored 13 points and Austen Irrer added 10.
Keyon Addison scored 30 points Tuesday in leading Saginaw to a 72-65 boys basketball victory over Midland. He hit 11 field goals including a pair of 3-pointers and was 6-of-8 from the free-throw line. Algevon Eichelberger netted 19 points and was 8-of-14 from the free-throw line. Ronquavious Southward netted seven points while Malik Jordan added five. Eichelberger had 12 rebounds plus seven blocks while Addison had nine steals and five assists. Saginaw was up 19-14 after the first quarter, 32-30 at halftime and 47-40 after the third quarter. Both teams had 25 points in the final quarter.
Saginaw lost 63-51 to Midland on Tuesday in girls basketball action. Midland led 17-8 after the first quarter, 34-17 at halftime and 50-32 after the third quarter. Nyashia Williams had 19 points, five steals and five assists. Tyasia Robinson had nine points while Darhonda Turner had eight points and Kenisha Newson seven points and eight rebounds.
Jess Walter scored 23 points to lead Midland over Saginaw 63-51 on Tuesday. Midland also netted 13 points for Alex VanSumeren and 10 for Jayden Williams. Midland led 17-8 after the first quarter, 34-17 at halftime and 50-32 after the first quarter.
The Saginaw Heritage girls lost Davison 17-13 Saturday afternoon at Colonial Lanes in Flushing. Heritage defeated Davison 401-388 in Baker games. In Peterson games, Heritage lost 1,890-1,696.
In the first Peterson games, scores were Taylor Hare (182), Megan Wekwert (147), Amber Glynn (145), Taylor Garcia (140) and Abby Hare (139). In the second Peterson game, scores were: Taylor Garcia (245), Megan Wekwert (214), Taylor Hare (206), Amber Glynn (145) and Abby Hare (133).
“Although we suffered a loss this was to the defending Division 1 state champions and we proved that we can and will be strong competitors in post season play, and we are on the high road to regionals,” said Heritage coach Scott Hare.
Morley Stanwood fell to Lakeview 61-41 Thursday in Central State Activities Association girls basketball action. Lindsay Veersma scored 12 points for the Mohawks while Mallory Raven and Marissa Frye had seven and six points respectively.
