Lansing Eastern’s wrestling team was third in the 14-team Black Hawk Invitational in Leslie on Saturday. Manchester had 262.5 points compared to 130.5 for Perry for first and second. Eastern had two wrestlers make it to the finals. Jeff Mills beat Alex Lopez at 215 pounds with a 3-2 decision.  Patrick Stoufer was pinned a 1:50 pounds in the 285-pound title match.

Perry finished second place behind Manchester in the Black Hawk Invitational in Leslie on Saturday.

Manchester had 262.5 points compared to 130.5 for Perry in the 14-team field.

 

Kyle Smith of Perry was second at 135 pounds, losing on a pin to Matt Munson of Manchester in 2:50. Also for Perry, Kolten Laurer was second at 152, losing in the finals to Eric Coval of Manchester with an 18-7 decision. Also for Perry, Alex Proudfoot lost to Michael Godling in the 171-pound weight class on a pin in 5:30.

 

Alma’s wrestling team finished eighth on Saturday at the Black Hawk Invitational in Leslie. Manchester took first place. Boyd Hubbard led the Alma attack with first place at 160 pounds, beating Austin Rathbun of Manchester 18-7 in the title match. Alex Lopez took second at 215 pounds, losing to Jeff Mills of Lansing Eastern 3-2 in the title match.

Lakeview’s undefeated boys basketball string has ended.

The Wildcats fell to 7-1 overall and 8-1 in the Central State Activities Association with a 77-62 loss to Reed City on Wednesday.

The Wildcats were down 20-16 after the first quarter and 40-33 at halftime. They trailed 51-46 after the third quarter and were outscored 26-16 in the fourth.

 

Nate Shurlow led Lakeview with 18 points. Shawn Lindsey had 15 points for Lakeview.

 

Carson City-Crystal’s girls basketball team improved its record to 19-1 with a 34-23 victory on Thursday over Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart. Mackenzie Geister had the hot hand for CC-C with 16 points and eight rebounds. Makayla Duflo put in 15 points for the winners who had a 27-10 halftime lead.

 

Montabella is 10-6 in wrestling after losing to Carson City-Crystal 54-24 and defeating Bath 37-18 last Wednesday in Central Michigan Athletic Conference action. Going 2-0 for the night for Montabella were Dustin Scott at 130, Mike Hyde at 145, Joey Durham at 160, Jonny Durham at 171 and Dan Davidson at 285.

 

Carson City-Crystal has clinched the regular season title of the Central Michigan Athletic Conference for wrestling. The Eagles got the job done last Wednesday by defeating Montabella 54-24 and Laingsburg 49-22. Carson City-Crystal improved to 21-2. Double wins for the Eagles were Ryan Arersinger at 103, Taylor Barkley at 112, Alex Baker at 119, Garner Cusack at 140 and Darren Decker at 152.

 

Belding’s girls basketball team improved its record to 7-3 overall with a 56-40 win over Allendale Wednesday. McKenzie Breimayer had 20 points for Belding and netted 15 of those from five 3-pointers. Monica Baylis had 15 points for Belding.

 

Belding’s boys basketball team lost to Allendale 65-52 Wednesday night. Belding fell to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in the O-K Blue. Garrett Strotheide had 25 points for Belding while Kole Hart had 14.

 

Greenville’s wrestling team improved to 21-5 overall and 4-0 in the O-K Bronze wth a 78-4 win over Grand Rapids West Catholic. Leading the way for the Jackets with pins were Stephen Hilliker at 112, Nate Baker at 119, Alex Budge at 125, Will Parmelee at 135, Kodi Wilcox at 140, Jake Hopkins at 152, Reed Cox at 150 and Luke Bontrager at 171.
