Area Class B boys basketball teams have gained recognition this week by the Associated Press.  Millington at 8-0 is ranked fourth while Wayland is 11th. Bay City John Glenn 21st, Big Rapids 28th and Portland 31st.

 

Area Class A boys basketball teams have gained recognition this week by the Associated Press. Saginaw Arthur Hill at 7-2 is ranked third.  Holt is ranked 11th while Lansing Waverly is No. 13th, Mount Pleasant 16th, Midland 17th, Grand Ledge 18th, Saginaw 20th and Okemos 24th.

 

Saginaw Heritage lost to Saginaw High School 66-34 Friday night in boys basketball action. Julian Parson netted eight points for Heritage followed by Justin Ingram and Nick Tilot with seven apiece and Quinn Erway with four points.

 

Saginaw High School got the best of Saginaw Heritage 66-34 Friday night in boys basketball action. Devonte Allen scored 11 points and Derrick Bowes had 10 points for Saginaw. Algevon Eichelberger netted nine points. Keyon Addison had 10 steals while Eichelberger had 15 rebounds and five blocks.

Vestaburg recently bolted to a 42-2 lead over Ashley and went on to a 63-19 win in Mid-State Activities Association action.

The top gun for Vestaburg has been DeWayne McKinney, who had 26 points and 22 rebounds in a loss to Farwell. Last season, he averaged 15.9 points and 15.3 rebounds a game. His season, he is at 18.2 points and 11.0 rebounds a game.

 

Junior guard Keegan Scott has averaged 13.1 points and 3.2 rebounds per game for Vestaburg.

The Saginaw Heritage girls bowling team had a 30-0 win Friday night over  Flint Northwestern 30-0 Friday Night at Stardust Lanes in Saginaw.

In the Baker total, Heritage defeated Flint North Western 276-170 

Heritage had 817-434 and 718-435 wins in the Peterson games.

Individual game leaders in the first Peterson game were Taylor Hare (199), Megan Wekwert (180), Taylor Garcia (170), Amber Glynn (134) and Miranda Garza (134). Individual games leaders in the second one were Taylor Hare (175), Megan Wekwert (171), Abby Hare (151),  Amber Glynn (150),

 The Heritage girls bowling team continued its winning streak.

 

“Strong performances during the first peterson game by Taylor Hare, Megan Wekwert and Taylor Garcia allowed us to capture all 9 of the available points giving us a 19-0 advantage heading into the final game,” said Scott Hare, Heritage coach. “Our good fortune continued with good performances given by Taylor Hare, Megan Wekwert, Abby Hare and Amber Glynn as we did not give up any of the available nine individual points in this game.”

 

Montabella took fifth place as a wrestling team at the Lakeview Invitational on Jan. 19. Three wrestlers took first place with Dustin Scott at 130, Joey Durham at 160 and Jonny Durham at 171. Zack Taubitz took second and Dan Davison (285) was third. 

 

Lakeview’s wrestling team was fourth at home invitational on Jan. 19. Nolan Saxton at 112 and Terry Grieser at 152 were first-place winners. Garrett Cavendish at 171 was second, Austin Davy at 119 were third and Tony Seaborn 140 was fourth.

 

Tri County’s wrestling team took second out of 15 teams with 157.5 points on Jan. 9. Eight Vikings scored points. Nick Meghan was first at 103 pounds while Justyn Veneklasen at 140, Lucas Prater at 145, Jarrod Tague at 160 and Jayson VanDyken at 189 were third. Tucker Martin at 125 and Bryan Scott at 152 were fourth.

 

Central Montcalm’s wrestling team was eighth out of 16 team at the Ithaca Invitational on Saturday and placed four wrestlers for points. Taking third places for Central Montcalm were Trenton Braman at 145, Dakota James at 152 and Cory Kindle at 285. Cody Veltkamp was fifth at 125 pounds.
