Birch Run was first at 222, followed by Caro at 198, Saginaw Swan Valley 166.5, Alma 118, Freeland 109.5, Essexville Garber and Carrollton at 103, St. Louis at 93.5, North Branch 91.5, Chesaning 89, Millington 86.5, Hemlock 78, Midland Bullock Creek 64.5, Ithaca 63, Shepherd 41, Ovid-Elie 34, Frankenmuth 32, Saginaw Michigan Lutheran Seminary 28, Otisville LakeVille Memorial 20, Saginaw Valley Lutheran 10 and Breckenridge 6.

 

In consolation matches for third and fourth place, Boyd Hubbard won at 160 pounds 14-3. Sage Gonzales was pinned in 52 seconds at 135 pounds by Justin Elliot of Birch Run,  Stephen Hart was pinned in 2:18 by Caleb Gallant of Carrollton at 2:18 and Alex Lopez was pinned at 285 by Steve Decker of Swan Valley.

Steve Decker took third place at 285 pounds for Swan Valley by pinning Alex Lopez of Alma in 4:17 in the consolation finals. In the finals for Swan Valley, KJ Sutor at 112 pounds won 16-0 in a technical fall over Chandler White of Frankenmuth. Matt Santos at 125 pounds beat Jerry Fenner 2-0, Collin Dole edged Josh Schlak of Freeland 3-2 at 135 pounds for first place, Sam McLean won 3-2 over Brett Green for first at 145 pounds. Josh Flore took second at 150.

Mitch Franklin won the 152-pound weight class for Birch Run while Jared Elliott was tops at 160. They got seconds from Drew Cox at 119 and Jerry Fenner at 125.  George Lahar was second at 215. Birch Run took third at 130 with Adam Grim, 135 with Justin Elliott and 140 with Ean Taylor.

 

Morley Stanwood’s Mekayla Carey has verbally agreed to join the Ferris State volleyball program starting with the 2015 season. Carey was a junior for last season Morley Stanwood volleyball squad that won a CSAA title and district championship. She was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association High School Phenom list.

Chippewa Hills’ wrestling team was second at the Central State Activities Association meet at Lakeview on Saturday.

All 13 wrestlers for Chippewa Hills placed.

Individual champs for the Warriors included Richie Ostrander at 103, Zach King at 119 and Kevin Briscoe at 152.

 

Mike Felix at 125, Slade Todd at 135, Mason Dey at 145, Eric Russell at 171 and Brenden Berry at 215 took second place for Chippewa Hills.

 

Bay City John Glenn was fourth in Saturday’s Tri-Cities Meet at Saginaw Valley State University. Midland Dow was first at 712. Saginaw Heritage was second at 474, followed by Bay City Western at 326, Bay City John Glenn at 225, Midland at 216, Bay City Central at 214 and Essexville Garber at 105.  Jacob Reder led John Glenn with a second-place in the 100-yard butterfly in 57.81 seconds.

Saginaw Heritage was second at 474, followed by Bay City Western at 326, Bay City John Glenn at 225, Midland at 216, Bay City Central at 214 and Essexville Garber at 105. Even Clegg led Bay City Central with a first-place finish in the 1-meter dive at 339.55.

Elliot Plummer won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:46.61 and the 500-yard freestyle in 4:56.70. Logan Yearham was second in the 200 yard intermediate in 2:04.50. The 200-yard medley relay team was second in 1:44.40. Adam Dean was second in the 1-meter dive. The 200-yard freestyle relay team was second in 1:33.7. The 400-yard freestyle relay was second in 3:25.86. Yearham was first and Tyler Miller second in the 100-yard breaststroke in 59.14 seconds and 1:01.33.

Midland Dow’s swimming team was first with 712 points among seven teams in Saturday’s Tri-Cities Meet at Saginaw Valley State University.

 

Saginaw Heritage was second at 474, followed by Bay City Western at 326. Bay City John Glenn at 225, Midland at 216, Bay City Central at 214 and Essexville Garber at 105. Dow took first place in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:40.76 and was second with Kevin White in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:50.52 and first in the 200-yard intermediate with Zach Hoffman in 2:01.87. Nehemiah Mork was first and Nick Smith second in the 50 freestyle in 21.68 seconds and 23.19. Mork won the 100-yard butterfly in 52.53 seconds. White was second in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:59.54 and the 200-yard freestyle relay team was first in 1:31.93. Nick Pixton and Nick Smith were one and two in the 100-yard backstroke in 56.54 and 57.59. Dow also won the 400-yard freestyle in 3:19.13.

 

Mason’s boys basketball team fell to Jackson Lumen Christi 62-43 in Friday night action. Lumen Christi was up 21-9 after the first quarter, 32-20 at halftime and 48-34 after the third quarter. Doug Bradford scored 21 points while Nathan Jones and Camron Picard had six apiece for Mason. Lumen Christi had a 14-9 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter.
