Ithaca lost 66-60 to Saginaw Valley Lutheran in TVC West boys basketball Friday night. It was tied 15-15 after the first quarter and Valley Lutheran led 29-24 at halftime and 44-37 after the third quarter. Logan Hessbrook scored 23 points while Eli Villalobos had 15 points and Travis Smith 11 points for Ithaca.

 

Saginaw Valley Lutheran improved to 12-1 Friday night and 8-0 in the TVC West with its second win of the season over defending champion Ithaca 66-60. It was tied 15-15 after the first quarter and Valley Lutheran led 29-24 at halftime and 44-37 after the third quarter. Josh Appold scored 21 points while Rylan Appold added 14 points, Mike Weiss had nine points and Logan Gatza eight points for Valley Lutheran. Josh Appold had eight rebounds and four blocks.

 

Midland’s girls basketball team defeated Saginaw Heritage 44-39 in a girls basketball showdown on Friday night. Midland led 15-8 after the first quarter, 24-14 at halftime and 33-26 after the third quarter. Jess Walter scored 21 points for Midland while Alex VanSumeren and Jadyen Williams netted seven apiece. Emily Resmer had nine rebounds while Williams had six.

 

Saginaw Heritage’s girls basketball team lost 44-39 to Midland in Friday night girls basketball action. Midland led 15-8 after the first quarter, 24-14 at halftime and 33-26 after the third quarter. Allie Miller had 15 points for Heritage and eight rebounds. Haley Goodell had nine boards.

 

Mason celebrated a district title on Thursday after a 54-24 win against Chelsea in the finals. Winners for Mason were Seth Bunting by pin at 103, Matt Carlson by forfeit at 112, Tristin Miller by pin at 125, Tony Ruiz by forfeit at 135, Connor Clark by pin at 140, Jacob Clark by pin at 152, Rylen Droscha by pin at 171, Albert Tokovich by pin at 215 and Sam Bonson by pin at 285 pounds.

 Greenville’s wrestling team celebrated a district title in Division 2 Thursday night with a 56-18 victory. Winners for Greenville were the team by forfeit at 112, Steven Hilliker at 119, Will Parmelee at 130, Tate Jeffery at 135 Alec Ward at 145, Jake Hopkins at 152, Reed Cox at 160, Luke Bontrager at 171, Zach Holder at 189 and Andrew Bowen at 215.

 

Midland High took third place on Tuesday in its competitive cheer division at the Meridian Invitational in Sanford. Midland had 179.1 in the first round, 133.66 in the second and 250.64 in the third round for a final score of 563.4.

 

Bay City Western took second place on Tuesday in its competitive cheer division at the Meridian Invitational in Sanford. BC Western had scores of 188.5 in the first round, 162.4 in the second and 233.9 in the third. The total score was 584.8.

 

Midland Dow took first place on Tuesday in its competitive cheer division at the Meridian Invitational in Sanford. Midland Dow had scores of 216.7 in the first round, 188.36 in the second round and 266.7 in the third. The total score was 671.76.

 

Sanford Meridian’s competitive cheer team took first place at the Midland Dow Classic on Thursday. The Mustangs had totals of 201.20 in Round 1, 173.04 in Round 2 and 253.7 in Round 3. Harrison was second with 596.7, Clarkston third at 559.50, Vassar fourth at 528.02 and Dryden fifth at 497.52.
