Mason celebrated a district title on Thursday after a 54-24 win against Chelsea in the finals. Winners for Mason were Seth Bunting by pin at 103, Matt Carlson by forfeit at 112, Tristin Miller by pin at 125, Tony Ruiz by forfeit at 135, Connor Clark by pin at 140, Jacob Clark by pin at 152, Rylen Droscha by pin at 171, Albert Tokovich by pin at 215 and Sam Bonson by pin at 285 pounds.
Greenville’s wrestling team celebrated a district title in Division 2 Thursday night with a 56-18 victory. Winners for Greenville were the team by forfeit at 112, Steven Hilliker at 119, Will Parmelee at 130, Tate Jeffery at 135 Alec Ward at 145, Jake Hopkins at 152, Reed Cox at 160, Luke Bontrager at 171, Zach Holder at 189 and Andrew Bowen at 215.
Midland High took third place on Tuesday in its competitive cheer division at the Meridian Invitational in Sanford. Midland had 179.1 in the first round, 133.66 in the second and 250.64 in the third round for a final score of 563.4.
Bay City Western took second place on Tuesday in its competitive cheer division at the Meridian Invitational in Sanford. BC Western had scores of 188.5 in the first round, 162.4 in the second and 233.9 in the third. The total score was 584.8.
Midland Dow took first place on Tuesday in its competitive cheer division at the Meridian Invitational in Sanford. Midland Dow had scores of 216.7 in the first round, 188.36 in the second round and 266.7 in the third. The total score was 671.76.
Sanford Meridian’s competitive cheer team took first place at the Midland Dow Classic on Thursday. The Mustangs had totals of 201.20 in Round 1, 173.04 in Round 2 and 253.7 in Round 3. Harrison was second with 596.7, Clarkston third at 559.50, Vassar fourth at 528.02 and Dryden fifth at 497.52.
Addie Schumacher from Beal City committed to Central Michigan University’s women’s track and field program on Wednesday, February 5th.
Schumacher led Beal City’s volleyball team to the title game the past two seasons.
‘She plays year-around volleyball but says track is is her best sport. She’s a two-time high jumping state champ. She’s also been all-league in basketball.
Breckenridge’s Dominique Adams has signed a letter of intent to run cross country and track at Saginaw Valley State.
Adams had a strong resume in cross country including a personal record of 18:55.7, being named to the 2013 First Team TVC West and All-TVC, and bringing home All-State honors in 2010 and 2011. Her team was Division 4 State Runner-up title in 2013. Her teammate, Kirstin Olling, was state champ.
In the spring during the Track and Field season, Adams had All-State honors in the 1600 Meter in 2012 and 3200 Meter run in 2012 and 2013. She earned All-State honors in the 3200 Meter Relay in 2013.
“She is one of the best distance runners in our school’s history,” says her Cross Country Coach Royce Humm. “She brought a high level of optimism, leadership, and teamwork to our program and will serve as a great example to future runners for years to come. She will be a great addition to the exemplary distance program at SVSU.”
“I am excited to be continuing my running career as a Cardinal.” says Dominique. “I really like the team and we get along very well. I have a lot of goals and I’m excited to compete at the next level.”
Cedar Springs fell in the Division 2 district finals to Greenville on Thursday. The Redhawks got a win at 103 pounds for Jordan Ringler on a pin in 2:17. Also for Cedar Springs, Baron Lenardson won 9-2 over Alex Budge at 125 pounds
Cedar Springs’ Anthony Topolski won a decision at 140 and Patrick DePiazza won on a pin at 285 pounds.
Lowell’s wrestling team blanked East Grand Rapids 78-0 Thursday to win the Division 2 district title.
Winners for Lowell were Kyle Washburn, Sam Russell, Zeth Dean, Isaiah Rowley, Derek Krajewski, Bailey Jack, Jordan Hall, Dan Kruse, Eli Boulton, Jacob Garcia, Kanon Dean, Max Dean, Josh Colegrove and Logan Wilcox.
