DeWitt had good representation at the Central Michigan Power Lifting regional meet at Shepherd on Feb. 15. Connor Grice was first at men varsity 194. Josh Hanna was first at men’s varsity 275.

 

Shepherd had good representation at the Central Michigan Power Lifting regional meet at Shepherd on Feb. 15. Tory Childs was first at 181 pounds. Mariah MacGregor was first for Shepherd in the women’ 123 pounds. Jacob Spickerman was second at men JV 2007.

 

Central Montcalm’s women’s team was second behind Lake Orion at the Central Michigan Power Lifting regional meet at Shepherd on Feb. 15. Maddie Grossbauer won the 198-pound class. For the boys, Tyler McGuire was first at JV 165. Issac Bowman was second at varsity 155. For women, Laura McCallum was second at 198. Tawny Graves was second at 123 pounds.

 

 

 

Coleman’s competitive cheer season ended at the Division 4 districts at Evart on Saturday. Out of 13 teams, the Comets were unable to crack into the top six. It’s the top four that advance to the regionals. Breckenridge was first at 715.32. Team members for Coleman, coached by Amy Klopf and Renee McMullen were Allison Lovejoy, Amanda Lovejoy, Jessica Lovejoy, Tiffany Mitchell, Kelly Sysak, Jordyn Szymanski, Natasha Harcourt, Corrina Wilson, Grace Cozat, Ashlyn Monson and Megan Sokolowski.     

 

Sanford Meridian placed fourth in the 13-team Division 4 district for competitive cheer on Saturday and will advance to the regionals next weekend. The top four teams qualify for the regionals Sanford Meridian had a score of 622.46. Breckenridge was first at 715.32. Team members for Sanford Meridian, coached by Val McKenzie, were Krystien Kline, Emalie Berger, Gabrielle Blanchard, Cayla Brawt, Jordan Humphreys, Jeannie Mosher, Chelsa Snow, Kodie Thurston, Charley Kovacs, Jamie Mosher and Courtney Wasalaski.

 

Breckenridge’s competitive cheer team scored a 715.32 to win the 13-team Division 4 district at Evart on Saturday. Hart was second at 701.94. Members of coach Deb Gaines’ Breckenridge team were Justine Brabaw, Dakota Colthorp, Harley Conklin, Kaitlyn Korson, Lena Crowell, Melony Ferspiel, Alex Gillis, Paige Guthrie, Alicia Gutierrez, Katie Mortenson, Lindsey Reichard and Madison Smith.

 

Owosso lost 78-63 in boys basketball action to DeWitt Friday night. DeWitt was up 16-15 after the first quarter, 40-30 at halftime and 65-44 after the third quarter. Owosso had a 19-13 scoring edge in the final quarter. Owosso was led by Gavin Barnes with 17 points, Jalen Weekley with 17 points, Shawn Ardelean with 13 points and Emett Alman with six.

 

DeWitt boasted five players in double figures in a 78-63 win on Friday over Owosso. DeWitt was up 16-15 after the first quarter, 40-30 at halftime and 65-44 after the third quarter. Owosso had a 19-13 scoring edge in the final quarter. Joshua Borta had three 3-pointer and 18 points for DeWitt. Also for DeWitt, Evan Conn scored 17 points while Andrew Eible had 13 points, Evan Smith 11 points and Ben Zamiara 10 points.

Holt enjoyed a 63-12 victory over Portage Northern in Division 1 regional team semifinal action Wednesday.

 

Winners for Holt were Kyle Grander at 140 by major decision, AJ Pesley at 145 by pin, Marco Reyes at 160 by pin, Devin Taylor at 171 by pin, Gage Sivyer at 189 by pin, Tim Fischer at 215 by pin, Larry Owens at 285 by pin, Austin Snyder at 112 by pin, Benny Gomez at 119 by technical fall, Martin Rodriquez at 125 by pin and Kolin Leyrer at 135 by pin. Holt lost to Hartland 33-28 in the finals.
