Vestaburg’s boys basketball team fell to 5-6 overall with a 49-46 loss to Montabella on Feb. 7. Vestaburg had a five-point lead going to the fourth, but could not hang on. Keegan Scott had 21 points for Vestaburg while DeWayne McKinney had 13 points and 20 rebounds.

 

Montabella improved to 4-3 overall in the Mid-State Activities Conference with a 49-43 win over Vestaburg on Feb. 7. Montabella trailed by five going into the final quarter but scored  23 points while holding Vestaburg to 15. Cayden Nisonger had 18 points for Montabella while Brady Burggren netted 11 points.

 

Carson City Crystal has a 6-0 record in the Mid-State Activities Association after a 59-44 win over Ashley on Feb. 7. Aaron Haines led the Eagles with 18 points. Garrett Tabor and Grant Gage put in nine apiece. CC-Crystal improved to 8-3 overall.

 

Lakeview’s boys basketball team improved its record to 11-1 overall and 10-1 in the CSAA on Feb. 7 with an 81-56 win over Reed City to regain first place. Nate Shurlow had 20 points for Lakeview, followed by Shawn Lindsey and Brad Hamlin with 19 points each, and Caleb Ruvalcaba with 13 points.

Eaton Rapids had two district champs last Saturday in Division 2. Jaedin Skapsky at 130 and Lane McVicker at 135 took first places. Blain Milheim at 145 pounds and Clayton Higelmire at 215 took second place. Caleb Norris was third at 152, Isaac Coolidge third at 103 and Austen Hutchison third at 125, and Andrew Paul at 140 and Austin Schwensen at 130 were fourth

 

Cameron Mahlich of Ionia won the Division 2 103-pound class in the districts last Saturday. Jordan Richardson won at 112 pounds. They will both compete in regional action on Saturday.

 

Chase Challender of Charlotte was a district champion at 215 pounds last Saturday. Also for Charlotte, Eric Wales at 125, Robert Miller at 160 and Jake Gravina at 171 took second place. Zach Telfor at 215 and Austin Schwensen at 130. The top four finishers in each class will be in the regionals this weekend.

Lowell crowned nine of the 14 champions in the Division 2 districts last Saturday. Champions from the districts are Lucas Hall at 112, Zeth Dean at 119, Derek Krajewski at 125, Bailey Jack at 130, Jordan Hall at 135, Kanon Dean at 160, Max Dean at 171, Garret Stehley at 189 and Josh Colegrove at 215.

 

Second-place finishers were Jacob Garcia at 152, Dan Kruse at 140 and Kyle Washburn at 103. Sam Russell was third at 103. Logan Wilcox was fourth at 285. The top four finishers in each class will be in the regionals this weekend.

 

Rockford placed three champions in the Division I individual districts on Saturday. Brandon Houle at 215 pounds, Jared Bennett at 112 and Stephen Jendritz at 119 took first place. Brent Showers was runner-up at 285. Braden Zych was third at 145. Terry Gant was fourth at 125. Caleb Childers was fourth at 171. Wrestlers that placed in the top four advance to the regionals this Saturday.

 

Fulton has two wrestlers that placed third in the Division 4 districts last Saturday and have advanced to this Saturday’s individual regionals. Trevor Hilgendorf defeated Taylor Barkley of Carson City Crystal while Owen Hilgendorf topped Ryan Bockheim in the consolation finals.
