East Lansing has one wrestler with a chance to win a state title. Brian Darious, wrestling at 285 pounds, has improved to 40-1 with a 3-0 record in the tournament. On Friday in the semifinals, he decisioned Chase VanHoef of Grand Haven 3-2. Earlier in the day, he pinned Cameron Daniels of Rochester Hills in 5:20. Karnyab Karnali at 152 pounds is 35-9 for East Lansing after going 1-2 in the tournament.

 

 

Martin Rodriguez at 119 pounds of Holt is 45-1 after going 3-0 so far in the Division I state finals. On Friday, Rodriguez won over Noah Gonser 18-7 and will wrestle in the finals on  Saturday. Mino Trevino won by major decision over Darien Vaughn of Flint Carman-Ainsworth 10-2 in the consolation Round 2.

 

Alec Ward is in the Division 2 title round Saturday for the Greenville wrestling team. Ward, at 140 pounds is 3-0 after two days on the tournament  In the semifinals, Ward beat Christian Schoenherr of Bay City Western 9-8 and is now 45-3. Will Parmelee at 130 pounds, won by decision over Dale Umlor of Coopersville 7-2 and will wrestle on Saturday. Jake Hopkins at 152 is 40-8 and Cole Antcliff at 285 is 26-7 after finishing 1-2.

Chippewa Hills has eight wrestlers at the meet and four went 1-0 on Thursday at the Division 3 state finals.

 Zach King improved to 46-4 at 112 pounds with a 6-0 tech fall over Dominic Gardner of Portland. Slade Tood is 36-13 at 130 pounds after pinning Jesse Scheid of Belding in 29 seconds. Kevin Briscoe is 35-14 at 145 pounds after winning by major decision 12-2 over Derek Gardner of Portland. Richie Ostrander of Chippewa Hills improved to 24-6 at 103 pounds with a 5-3 decision in overtime over Ethan Woods of Manchester.

 

Big Rapids’ two wrestlers both won their first round Division 3 matches on Thursday at the state finals in Auburn Hills.

 

Nate Weckesser, 43-3, got a 7-1 decision over Adam Grim of Birch Run 7-1 at 125 pounds. Alim Muhammed at 140 pounds improved to 36-2 with a 20-5 technical fall win over Dylan Briggs of Corunna.

 

Freeland’s three wrestlers at the Division 3 state finals all lost their first-round matches on Thursday at The Palace. Kolten Radaz at 125 fell to 46-8 with a tech fall loss to Foster Karmon of Allegan. Josh Schlak at 130 pounds is 44-9 after a major decision loss to Brendan O’Connor of Dundee. Charlie Ferens is 49-7 after a 5-4 loss to Charlie Ferens of Freeland.

 

Farwell’s two wrestlers at the Division 3 state finals both won their opening round matches on Thursday at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Glenn Beardsley is 45-4 after winning a major decision over Domenic Ciucci of Grand Rapids Catholic at 112 pounds. Tristen Zienkiewicz is 46-2 after winning by major decision over Cody Proudfoot of Perry-Morrice.

 

Both of DeWitt’s wrestlers competing in the Division 2 state finals at The Palace of Auburn Hills won in first round action Thursday. Austin Melton is 45-3 after taking a decision over Donald Janice of Warren Woods-Tower. Kameron Melton at 135 is 33-7 after a pin over Ethan Douglas of Ortonville-Brandon in 3:09.

 

Clare has three wrestlers in the Division 3 state finals at Auburn Hills and was led Thursday by Brandon Ayris at 171 pounds. Ayris improved to 38-6 with a decision over Alex Brown of Buchanan. The Pioneers have two other wrestlers competing. Logan Emery, 32-10 lost 12-8 in the 160-pound first round while Brenden Hensley, 37-5, fell to Quintin Wilber of Montrose-Hill-McCloy 14-12.

 

Zachary Wamser at 171 pounds is representing Cedar Springs in the Division 2 state finals at The Palace of Auburn Hills. Thursday, he lost his first round match to Max Dean of Lowell on a major decision and now has a 26-4 record.
