Farwell’s two wrestlers at the Division 3 state finals both won their opening round matches on Thursday at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Glenn Beardsley is 45-4 after winning a major decision over Domenic Ciucci of Grand Rapids Catholic at 112 pounds. Tristen Zienkiewicz is 46-2 after winning by major decision over Cody Proudfoot of Perry-Morrice.
Both of DeWitt’s wrestlers competing in the Division 2 state finals at The Palace of Auburn Hills won in first round action Thursday. Austin Melton is 45-3 after taking a decision over Donald Janice of Warren Woods-Tower. Kameron Melton at 135 is 33-7 after a pin over Ethan Douglas of Ortonville-Brandon in 3:09.
Clare has three wrestlers in the Division 3 state finals at Auburn Hills and was led Thursday by Brandon Ayris at 171 pounds. Ayris improved to 38-6 with a decision over Alex Brown of Buchanan. The Pioneers have two other wrestlers competing. Logan Emery, 32-10 lost 12-8 in the 160-pound first round while Brenden Hensley, 37-5, fell to Quintin Wilber of Montrose-Hill-McCloy 14-12.
Zachary Wamser at 171 pounds is representing Cedar Springs in the Division 2 state finals at The Palace of Auburn Hills. Thursday, he lost his first round match to Max Dean of Lowell on a major decision and now has a 26-4 record.
Carson City-Crystal had three wrestlers win their first-round matches in Divison 4 on Thursday in the state finals at The Palace of Auburn Hills. Dallas O’Green at 125 is 42-3 after a tech fall against Elliott VanDreumel of Pine River. Darren Decker is 43-2 after a major decision over Nick Klemm of Adrian Madison. Dillen Decker is 39-2 after a tech fall against Andrew Grady of Springport.
Dan Davidson of Montabella improved to 28-4 by winning his opening round match in the Division 4 state finals Thursday at The Palace of Auburn Hills. Davidson pinned Isaiah Espinoza of Adrian-Madison in 4:54. Montabella’s other four wrestlers, Jared Gauthier at 125, Zack Taubitz at 145, Joey Durham at 160 and Johnny Durham at 171 lost their first-round matches and will wrestle Friday in the consolation round. Scott is 35-6, Taubitz 32-9, Durham 35-5 and Jonny Durham 35-4.
Birch Run has seven wrestlers at the Division 3 wrestling finals at The Palace and five won their first-round matches on Thursday.
Jerry Fenner at 125 pounds improved to 46-5 with a 26-11 over Tucker Martin of Tri County. Logan Bovee at 145 pounds took a 6-3 decision over Sam McLean of Saginaw Swan Valley and is 24-4. Mitch Franklin at 152 improved to 48-6 with a 12-5 decision over Colton Toney of South Haven. Jared Elliott at 160 is 46-6 after a 7-1 win over Boyd Hubbard of Alma. George Lahar at 215 is 49-5 after a pin in 2:43 against Devlin Philo of Benzie Central.
Jesse Scheidel has a 31-4 record for Belding’s wrestling team after falling to Slade Todd of Chippewa Hills Thursday in Division 4 wrestling action at the state finals, hosted by The Palace of Auburn Hills.
Ethan Smith is representing Bay City-John Glenn in the Division 2 state wrestling finals at The Palace of Auburn Hills. He fell to 39-6 on Thursday by losing a match to Billy Bischer of Yale on a pin in 2:55. Smith will continue to wrestle today.
Bay City Central’s three wrestlers at the Division 1 individual finals at The Palace all lost their first-round matches on Friday. Davon Jackson lost Jordan Atienza of Livonia-Franklin and is now 39-6. Andre Houston fell to 34-8 with a 3-2 loss to Zane Gorby of Caledonia. Tyler Vincent fell to 25-19 with a 15-0 setback to Carl Antrassian of Monroe.
