Midland’s season ended in the regional finals last week with a 70-65 loss to Flint Carman-Ainsworth. Midland was up 17-15 after the first quarter, and 34-28 after the second quarter but was tied 44-44 with Ainsworth in the third. Both teams had 14 points in the fourth. Ainsworth had a 12-7 advantage in overtime. Lili Hami had 24 points for Midland, which ends at 20-3.
Haslett last week ended Ann Arbor Huron’s season in the Class A regional semifinals with a 47-34 victory. Haslett was up 13-4 after the first quarter, 21-11 at half-time and 31-23 after the third quarter. Makenna scored 12 points for Haslett.
Grand Ledge’s girls basketball team won its Class A quarterfinal game Tuesday against Midland Bullock Creek
on Tuesday. Grand Ledge was up 19-11 after the first quarter, 32-21 at halftime and 46-35 after the third quarter. Lindsey Orwat scored 26 points and Codie Drake and Hannah Orwat added 14 points apiece for Grand Ledge.
Freeland’s season ended with a 59-45 loss in the regional finals last week. Taryn Taugher scored 29 points for Freeland. She also had eight rebounds and five steals. Bullock Creek was up 15-12 after the first quarter, 30-26 at halftime and 49-39 after the third quarter. Bullock Creek had a 10-6 advantage in the fourth.
Midland Bullock Creek defeated Sparta 53-40 in Class B quarterfinal action Sparta on Tuesday to advance to this weekend’s semifinal.
Sparta led Bullock Creek 14-13 after the first quarter but Bullock Creek was up 28-17 at halftime and 38-31 after the third quarter. Bullock Creek had a 15-9 advantage in the fourth. Ellie Juengel scored 16 points for Bullock Creek while Halee Nieman netted 14 points and Hannah Heldt had 10 points.
Grand Ledge ended Kalamazoo Central’s season last week in the Class A regional finals with a 56-44 victory. Grand Ledge was up 25-19 at halftime and 39-25 after the third quarter. Kalamazoo Central had a 19-17 scoring advantage in the fourth but it wasn’t enough. Lindsay Orwat netted 17 points, Lori Crocker had 14 points and Hannah Orwat added 13 points for Grand Ledge.
Midland Bullock Creek beat Freeland 59-45 last Thursday in Class B regional action. Bullock Creek was up 15-12 after the first quarter, 30-26 at halftime and 49-39 after the third quarter. Bullock Creek had a 10-6 advantage in the fourth. Halee Nieman scored 29 points for Bullock Creek. Alyssa Mudd added 19 points.
St. Louis’ girls basketball season ended in the Class C quarterfinals on Tuesday with a 47-40 loss to Saginaw Nouvel. McInerney passed the 1,000-point career scoring mark. Nouvel was up 12-7 after the first quarter, 19-14 at halftime and 28-19 after the third quarter. St. Louis outscored Nouvel 21-19 in the fourth but it wasn’t enough. Ryan Fagins scored 16 points for the Sharks while Ashton Maniez had eight points and Taylor Smith netted five.
Rachel McInerney scored 19 points, had 13 rebounds and recorded eight blocks to lead Saginaw Nouvel to a 47-40 Class C quarterfinal girls basketball victory over St. Louis on Tuesday. St. Louis outscored Nouvel 21-19 in the fourth but it wasn’t enough. Laurel Jacqmain netted 16 points for Nouvel.
Lansing Christian’s girls basketball season came to a close in the quarterfinals on Tuesday with a 39-33 loss to Athens. Lansing Christian was tied 6-6 with Athens after the first quarter and trailed 15-13 at halftime. Lansing Christian was up 21-20 after the third quarter but was outscored 19-12 in the fourth. Mikayla Terry scored eight points for Christian while Grace Haley had seven points.
