Rockford finished 10th in the Division 1 state swimming and dive meet in March at Saginaw Valley. Jake Herremans was first in the one-meter dive to lead the Rams. Shane Phillips was eighth.

 The 200-yard medley relay team of Craig Wasberg, David Dewberger, Timmer Hoffmeister and Chris Lemoine was sixth with a time of 1:36.87.

 Kaelyn Lander of Holt played last month in the Division I state individual girls bowling tournament at Sterling Heights. In the qualifying block, Lander bowled a 1,216 to take 19th place. The top 16 bowlers advanced to the next round.

 

Sydney Weiler of Rockford played last month in the Division 1 state individual girls bowling tournament at Sterling Heights. In the qualifying block, Weiler bowled a 1,235 to take 17th place, just four pins from 16th. The top 16 advanced to the next round.

Lakeview will be moving up from Class C to Class B during the 2014-15 sports year based on the MHSAA’s recent classification announcement.

“After all the counts are submitted, tournament-qualified member schools are ranked according to enrollment, and then split as closely into quarters as possible. For 2014-15, there are 749 tournament-qualified member schools with 187 schools in Class A, B and C and 188 schools in Class D,” the MHSAA said in its announcement.

 

These classifications are for volleyball and boys and girls basketball. Other sports go by divisions, depending on the schools that have that sport.

Jon Niemiec of Bay City Central competed in March at the Division 1 state bowling finals in Sunnybrook Lanes at Sterling Heights. He finished 52nd in the qualifying block at 1,162. The top 16 advanced to the next round.

 

Jordan Kaufman of Rockford compete in the Division 1 state boys bowling finals at Sunnybrook Lanes in Sterling Heights. He finished 39th at 1,229. The top 16 in the qualifying block qualified for the next round. Eric Buck of Rockford was 47th in 1,187.

 

Derrick Norman of Saginaw Heritage was a state quarterfinalist in the Division 1 finals in March at Sunnybrook Lanes in Sterling Heights. He lost to Jimmy Mitchell of  Grand Haven 418-379. In the Round of 16, Norman beat Zach Brandt of Kalamazoo Loy Norrix 472-365.

 

Lowell’s girls tennis team defeated Comstock Park 4-3 on Monday in high school action. Amanda Susnak beat Emily Benjamin 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and Ines Dominguez Gonzalez topped Madeline Bent 7-6, 6-4 at No. 2. In doubles, wins for Lowell came at No. 2 with Rachel Fox and Elena Bishop winning 6-2, 6-3 and at No. 3 with Megan Hoffman and Paige McKenna netting 6-1, and 6-0 victories.
