Central Montcalm’s baseball team was 1-1 at the Alma Invitational. The Hornets lost 4-2 to Bay City John Glenn and 12-11 to St. Charles. Todd Switzer had two hits against John glenn. Jesse Petersen and Brody Shindorf had two hits apiece in the second game.

 

Belding’s baseball team went to the Chippewa Hills Invitational last Saturday and was 1-1. The Warriors lost 7-1 to Chippewa Hills but defeated Whitehall 6-3. Aaden Quinn was the winning pitcher for Belding. The Redskins are 2-7.

Sarah Ellis is coaching the boys track team at Lowell and expects to have a strong squad this season. Top athletes are expected to be:

 

Derek Massey  in the 100, 200, 4X100, 4×400, Liam Kelley in the 110H, 4×100, 4×400 and 300 hurdles, Austin Branagan in the shot put, Josh Branagan in the hurdles, Colton Churches 100 and 200, Zach Diamond in the 1600 and 3200, Justin Everitt in the shot put and Tyler Garter, Casey Sellner and Zach Kaywood in the discus.

 

Pam Stafford is the girls track team coach at Holt and is excited about the season. “We are Division 1 in track,” Stafford said. “The girls team looks pretty good. There are some very strong and motivated girls on the team. Success is what each individual girl aspires to do.  When they do their best they will succeed. East Lansing, Grand Ledge and Okemos are very tough teams.  I feel that Holt ranks right along side of these teams.”

 

Tri County’s golfers competed at the Lakeview Invitational on Saturday, but did not have enough to qualify for a team score. Marcus Hall had a 90, followed by Jason VanDyken with 98, Joel Liukkonen 115 and Connor Hoisington 118.

 

Montabella’s golf team shot a 427 in Saturday’s Lakeview Invitational. Michael Hyde shot a 93, followed with Josh Balhorn at 110, Dakota Lobert and Casey Ewell at 112 and Cameron Nisogner at 138.

 

Central Montcalm’s golf team had a 424 in last Saturday’s Lakeview Invitational. Scott Stearn shot a 101, followed by Josh Mitchell with 102, Mason Ferguson 108, Nate Saladin 113 and Caleb Daggett 118.

Joshua Attwood is coaching a Swartz Creek team that he suspects will be very competitive this season.

Top athletes are expected to be Renee Genovesi in the 400-meter dash, Alena Benjamin in the 300 hurdles and Iman Taylor in the shot put and discus.

 

“I expect that our team will compete in every meet and hopefully push towards the upper half of the Metro League standings this year,” Attwood said. “Students need to maximize their training and be able to push one another to excel. The weather has been a hindrance, but we will not let that be an excuse why we cannot meet our goals.”

 

The Rockford girls tennis team placed second last week in the Okemos Tournament. Allyson Hey was fourth in No. 1 singles. Adeline Nelson was second at No. 2. Lauren Mirecki was third at No. 4. Jilian Day and Courtney Fedeson were second in No. 1 doubles. Lydia Elford and Grace Kropiwincki were third in No. 3. 

 

The Rockford water polo team was recently given a special tribute in the Michigan House for winning its second consecutive state championship. The team is a perfect 100-0 over the past two seasons and won its 10th title at November in school history with a 6-4 win over Ann Arbor Pioneer. The team is coached by Dave McWatters.
