Chippewa Hills baseball team lost 2-1 and 6-1 to Hesperia in baseball action on Friday. RJ Simon was the losing pitcher in the first game. Jarrett Humpula took the loss in the second game. Austin Issette had two hits in the first game and a single in the second.

 

Morley Stanwood’s softball team lost to Holton on Friday 5-0 and 5-1. The Mohawks are 8-8-1 overall. Mallory Raven took the pitching loss in both games. Taylor Maguire had two hits for the Mohawks in the first game. Mekayla Carey had an RBI single in the second game.

 

Greenville’s softball team was 1-1 in the Belding Invitational Saturday. Greenville lost 9-2 to Belding and beat Hastings 11-4. Emily Schnepp took the loss in the first game with Nikota Howe getting three hits Sarah Newhouse was the winning pitcher against Hastings. Devin Tate had five hits.

 

Belding’s girls softball team defeated Greenville 9-2 and Hastings 21-4 in its home tournament on Saturday to take first-place honors. Paige Ledin was the winner in the first game led by Greta Wilker with three hits, including a home run. Ledin was the winning pitcher in the second game. Mariah Heintzelman and Brooke Linebaugh had four hits apiece.

 

Belding finished first place in its own baseball tournament on Saturday and now has a six-game winning streak. Belding blanked Grant 7-0 with Neil McCully taking the win on 11 strikeouts in five innings. Tyler Reischel had three hits. Belding won the second game 9-8 over Grand Rapids Northview. Aaden Quinn had three hits for Belding.

 

Morley Stanwood’s baseball team fell to Holton in a CSAA doubleheader Friday. The Mohawks lost the first game 2-0. Tim Cairnduff was the losing pitcher. Holton won the second game 4-0. Chase Huntey took the loss. He had two singles.

 

The Big Rapids Crossroads girls soccer team tied Roscommon 1-1 on Friday, but missed a shot at getting into the Northern Michigan Soccer League’s title game. The Cougars are 8-3-1 overall and 6-3-1 in the league. Alyssa Larson scored for Crossroads.

 

Jon Wandel of Lakeview has signed a letter of intent to continue his golf career at Rochester College. He earned all-Central State Activities Association honors this season.

 

Vestaburg scored 29 points to finish 10th  at the Central Montcalm Invitational boys track and field meet earlier this month. Keigan Taylor was fourth in the 200 meters in 26.24 seconds.

Central Montcalm scored 102.5 points to finish seventh in the Central Montcalm Invitational boys track and field meet earlier this month. Trenton Braman won the 100-meter dash in 12.51 seconds. Andrew Mason, Logan Davis, Trenton Braman and Justin Reich were first in the 400 relay in 47.69.
