Beal City’s baseball team blanked Bay City All Saints 7-0 in the Division 4 quarterfinals on Tuesday and plays Friday at Michigan State in the semifinals. Winning pitcher Ty Rollins went six innings and allowed two hits and no walks.

 

Bay City Western’s softball team is in the state finals for Division 1 after a 2-1 win over Romeo Thursday semifinal action at Michigan State University. BCW will play Saturday in the state finals. Hannah Leppek doubled in the game-tying run and scored the game-winning run on Kelsey Popp’s double. She also was the winning pitcher.

 

Bay City Western defeated Hudsonville 4-2 on Tuesday in Division 1 softball state quarterfinal action. Kelsie Popp had a walkoff homer for the winners.

 

Wayland’s softball season came to an end with a 4-3 loss in 10 innings Thursday to Livonia Ladywood in Division 3 semifinal action Thursday at Michigan State. Haley Houck, Elyssa Oostdyk, Mallory Teunissen and Morgan Teunissen had two hits apiece for Wayland.

 

Reese’s softball season came to a close on Tuesday in a 2-1 loss to Unionville-Sebewaing in the Division 3 state quarterfinals. USA,  which improved to 10-1 out-hit Reese 13-5 at Saginaw Valley State. Reese, which ended the season at 28-11, got two hits apiece from Monica Hagen and Kaitlyn Szekley.

 

Fowler’s softball team improved to 26-6 with a 5-1 victory quarterfinals win over Westland Huron Valley Lutheran. The Eagles play in the semifinals on Friday. Kelsie Feldpaush had a key two-run home run for Fowler.

 

Janelle Rons pitched a four-hitter while striking out eight batters in leading Vestaburg past Ubly in a Division 4 state quarterfinal game on Tuesday, putting the Wolverines in the semifinals. Shana Fisk and Kerrigan Gates had homers for Vestaburg.

Chippewa Hills’ softball season came to a close on Tuesday at Central Michigan University with a 4-0 loss to Crosswell-Lexington in the Division 2 quarterfinals.

 

The season ends at 27-8 for the Warriors, who were unable to get a hit against Crosswell-Lexington’s Megan Guitar. Cassidy Johnson took the loss for the Warriors, allowing seven hits.

 

Rockford lost 15-3 to Hudsonville Saturday in the Division 1 regional semifinals. Rockford had beaten Northview 14-12 last week in the district finals. MacKenzie Vallad had four hits and four RBIs for Rockford.

 

Bay City Western defeated Ortonville-Brandon 8-1 and Alpena 8-0 in the Division 1 regionals Saturday. Hannan Leppek threw a two-hitter in the first game and one-hitter in the second. Meredith Rousse and Alexia Richard had home runs in the first game.
