Rockford scored 48 points to take fourth place in the recent Division I girls track and field meet at Rockford. Maegan McCarthy threw the discus 137 feet and tossed the shot put 41-1 ¾ for second place. Rockford was fifth in the 3,200-meter relay in 9:209.21. Sammy Cuneo was third in the 100-meter dash in 12.23 and third in the 200-meter dash in 24.63 seconds. Rockford was fourth in the 400-meter relay in 48.65. Lauren Brasure was fourth in the 3,200-meter run.

 

Rockford scored one point at the recent Division 1 boys track and field state meet at Rockford. Isaac Harding was eighth in the 3,200-meter run in 9:28.69. 

 

Saginaw Heritage scored eight points to tie for 28th at the recent Division 1 boys track and field state meet at Rockford. Parker Eisengruber was sixth in the 3,200-meter run in 9:23.91.

 Okemos scored eight points to tie for 28th at the recent Division 1 boys track and field state meet at Rockford. The 3,200-meter relay team of Andrew Armada, Daniel Bartkowski, Kael Fineout and Daniel Kroth was second in 7:45.16.

East Lansing scored 18 points to finish ninth at the recent Division 1 boys track and field state meet at Rockford. Antonio Clark was second in the 400-meter dash in 48.67 seconds. The 1,600-meter relay team of Lawrence Davis, Jared Howentstein, Marq Adams and Antonio Clark was first in 3:16.56.

 

Swartz Creek scored 20 points to finish eighth at the recent Division 1 boys track and field state meet at Rockford. Kevin Weller won the discus in 176-5 and the shot put in  60-4.

 

Grand Ledge scored 22 points to place seventh at the recent Division 1 boys track and field state meet at Rockford. Austin Edwards won the long jump at 22-11. Ba Blamo won the 100-meter dash in 11.09 seconds. Grand ledge was also second in the 400-meter relay in 41.47 seconds.

Division 1 baseball in the Mid-Michigan area was as strong as ever this spring. Not only did Bay City Western win the Division 1 state championship but a number of area players earned all-state honors.
Two Mid-Michigan players were named to the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association Dream Team. Grand Ledge senior pitcher Nick Kamrada and Rockford senior infielder Kory Young were both selected to the Dream Team.
Kamrada and Young were also two of four area players to earn first-team, all-state honors. Bay City Western senior pitcher Scott Badour and East Lansing senior infielder Tyler Gulick also earned first-team honors.
Bay City Western had a pair of players earn second-team, all-state honors. Senior Seth Freed was named as an infielder for the Warriors while junior Carson Eby was selected as a catcher. Rockford also had a pair of second-team all-state players in senior pitcher Reid Kelley and senior catcher Brent Showers. Grand Ledge also had two second-team selections in junior pitcher Tyler       Waldrop and senior outfielder Nate Langenfeld. Lowell senior Parker Groom was selected second-team, all-state as a utility player.
The Grand Ledge baseball team turned in another memorable season this spring capped off by a Diamond Classic Championship.
Grand Ledge won its 17th Diamond Classic title in the last 25 years when it defeated Charlotte 10-0 in the title game. Senior Nick Kamrada, who was selected to the all-state Dream Team, tossed a three-hitter in the title game to pace the Comets. Kamrada finished the season with a 12-0 record and two saves and will be playing baseball at the University of Ohio next season.
Senior Christian Keller paced the Comet offense in the title game as he went 4-for-4. Keller was also named the MVP of the Diamond Classic and earned all-conference and all-state honors this season.
Junior pitcher Tyler Waldron also earned all-conference and all-state honors this season. Waldron finished the season with a 10-1 record and two saves.
Grand Ledge finished the season with a 30-8 record. The Comets dominated the conference with a perfect 14-0 record. Grand Ledge’s season came to an end with a 9-8 defeat in nine innings to Battle Creek Lakeview in the Division 1 district championship game.
Senior outfielders Nate Langerfeld and Keefer Johnson and senior catcher Brennen Cummings also earned all-conference honors this season.

 

Joshua Balhorn of Montabella competed in the Division 4 boys golf state finals June 6-7 at Battle Creek. As an individual golfer, she shot rounds of 95 and 92 for a 187.
