Alma jumped out to a 21-7 1st quarter and never looked back, 23-18 2nd, 19-14, and 20-12 in a 83-51 win over Central Montcalm.

Alma was led by Cade Frillici’s 22 pts, Paul Gadde’s 19 pts 13 rebs & 9 Assists, Sam Leppien 7 pts 11 rebs 10 blks, & AJ Omans 10 pts 4 assists.

Central Montcalm was led by Trey Chapin’s 13 pts. Blake Guilford added 12 pts and Fisher Hill 7 pts.

Alma will face Shepherd on Saturday for the District Championship.

Frankenmuth got double-doubles from Ryan Brenner and Ben Reinert in beating Saginaw High 61-39. Brenner scored a game-high 21 points to go with 13 rebounds, while Reinert scored 11 points and 13 rebounds. Riley Roy added 17 points for the Eagles.

Lavell Brodnex scored 19 points for the Trojans.

Matt Bauer: Key Moment –  After missing his first three open looks on 3 pointers, Dylan LaGrow did what shooters do.  He kept shooting.  He finally connected on his first 3 with about 2 minutes left in the first quarter.  After about half way through the 2nd quarter, he had connected on 5 straight.
 
I like the way we played in the 2nd half tonight.  We got the ball into the heart of Valley’s defense with post entry passes and off the drive.  That set up a lot of easy baskets and open looks.  Max Dinninger and Espin Miller had really good games off of the bench.

Mitch Bohn: Im really proud of our starters played big minutes and led wire to wire until we fouled a three point shooter with 1.6 secs left in regulation.  Mishler made all three to send it to ot.

Pewamo-Westphalia boys beat Northpointe Christian 65-49 on Thursday. Zach Simon had 17 points for P-W. Brock Thelen had 15.

Using great ball movement, excellent passing, and a total team effort, the Varsity Frankenmuth Lady Eagles took care of Carrollton in the district semi final at Bridgeport, winning 62-15. Lexi Boyke led all scoring with 22 points, also gathering 8 rebounds. Zoey Persails followed with 13 points, and a team high 9 rebounds and 10 assists. Laney Soulliere also scored 11 points for the Eagles. The Eagles take on Bridgeport in the Bearcats’ gym Friday night March 26th for the district final at 7:00pm

I couldn’t be more happy with the effort and the fight these young ladies showed tonight. With a tough night scoring, intense defense and high level effort kept us in it until the end. 
Senior captain Jenna Holzinger lead the way with 8 points and 6 rebounds and a great defensive effort on farwells best player. 
 
It’s been an amazing year. I told my girls before the season that anytime can happy with dedication, a good attitude and the belief that anything’s possible when you work for it. And This is a group that made it happen. I couldn’t be more proud of them. The lady mustangs conclude a great season with the record of

On Wednesday, New Lothrop clinched its 21st consecutive trip to the Team State Finals with a 68-3 regional win over Michigan Lutheran Seminary.

Getting pins were Cooper Symons, Parker Noonan, Jack Kulhanek, Andrew Krupp, Jackson Kneiper, Bryce Cheney, Harry Melmick and Cam Orr.

 

 

Hemlock defeated Reese in girls’ basketball district play 55-43. Breanna Turner led Hemlock with 15 points to go along with 6 rebounds. Chloe Watson added 13 points to go along with 3 steals. Regan Finkbeiner scored 10 points. Cassidy Peake chipped in with 6 points and 6 steals. Reese was led by Andi Reinert with 19 points.
