HEMLOCK – The Millington Cardinal defense flexed their wings again as they held Hemlock to just 172 yards of offense en route to a 38-7 conference victory on Friday night.

The defense was highlighted by Luke Matusik’s two interceptions and Logan Curtis’ three sacks. Matusik’s second interception at the 1:07 mark of the third quarter was returned 14 yards for a score by the junior defensive back.

Kadyn LaChapelle led the Cardinal defense with eight tackles and one sack. Drew Kihn and Cole Hitsman each added six tackles.

Offensively the Cardinals were led by the steady efficient play of senior quarterback Issac Slough. He was 14-20 passing for 136 yards and two scores. Slough also picked up 30 yards rushing on seven attempts.

Jacob Legue had 65 yards rushing and a score on 10 attempts, while Matusik added 62 yards on six carries.

Luke Sherman scored a touchdown through the air and had 50 yards on six receptions. Kihn added 61 yards on five receptions. Jerdannio Bailey had two receptions for 21 yards and a score.

Placekicker Luke Williams was 5-5 on his point-after attempts and kicked a 30-yard field goal in the third period.

Millington (3-0, 1-0) will return to action next Friday, September 17 when they host Standish-Sterling Central High School (3-0, 1-0) during Parent’s Night. The kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
