The Eagle Cross Country teams competed today at the Birch Run Early Invitational.
The girls finished 9th in the Small school division and 19th out of 27 schools over all (large & small school divisions combined)
Leading the way for the lady Eagles was Mary Beth Hyatt who finished 21st and medaled. She was followed by Paige Ewalt, Emily Delong, Madison Woodward and Lyvia Halfman.
The boys opened the season in defense of their 2020 D4 championship finishing 3rd overall (large & small school divisions combined) and 2nd in the small school division (Ithaca won the small school division). Leading the way for the Eagles was Ashton Keiffer, followed by Brayden Clark, Deegan Bodell, Cole Stone, Gavin Gage, Jacob Stevens and Oisin O’Grady (All of which earned a medal).
Coach Grant Woodman: “It was really good to get back out there and test the training that we have been doing. The heat & humidity was brutal, but it usually is in late August. To finish in the top 3 overall out of 27 schools and be the top Division 4 school is huge. This is a great start for both teams. We talked about finding the positives for both teams and how we are different teams from a year ago– but we can accomplish the similar things. The girls finishing in the top 10 with only 5 girls was a great confidence booster and the boys finishing 3rd to a D2 and D3 school is also a great start. This is the starting line, the finish line is in November and we will continue to work to get better every race. “
The next race for the Eagles will be September 2nd at the Ithaca Yellowjacket invitational.
