The Frankenmuth Boys golf team traveled to Twin Oaks Golf Club this Wednesday for their 3rd conference competition. The teams played East nine from the blues totaling 2810 yards.
The overall team score was the best the team has put up this season to date. They shot a 172 earning them the same 4th spot in the new 7 team conference.
Andrew Zuniga stepped up for the Eagles today, shooting his season best 40. Zuniga had a rough start on his very first hole. After teeing his shot in a ditch, he took a penalty stroke and put the ball just off the green about 40 feet away from the hole. He managed to save par but chipping in! That momentum allowed him to find his rhythm. On hole 1, Zuniga put the ball within 2 feet of the hole from his second shot from 130 yards out. That led to an easy tap in birdie. We are excited to see him continue progress as the season continues.
Caden Piesko had an impressive day as well. He shot second best for the team with a 42. Piesko managed 5 pars on the day and had a really nice 14 footer drop on hole 9. Piesko played smart and efficient, controlling his tee shots and making his pars by getting on the green. His play has improved with every competition it seems.
Eric Nielsen and Brendan Lenhard added to the team score with 45s. Nielsen’s putting has been on fire lately. He had a 30 foot bogey save on hole 5 has been dialed in from anywhere from 2 feet to 10. Lenard has adjusted nicely this season. His consistency on his drives allows him to score low. He drove the green on hole 5 which led to an easy birdie.
Andrew Hoesman also managed to drive the green on hole 2 which allowed him to salvage a birdie.
Robbie Brown made his varsity debut as a freshmen. Brown parred holes 6 and 9 and had some impressive drives.
