Freeland 35 John Glenn 14

Friday night the Falcons took on the Bobcats of John Glenn with a chance to win the TVC Central conference outright. The Falcons were 2-0 in the conference and in a tie with Swan Valley atop the conference, but with a win would claim the outright championship.

John Glenn received the opening kickoff and the Falcons would get to play defense first, just like they like it. The Bobcats were forced to punt after getting one first down from their own 23 yard line. A bad snap over the punters head would give the Falcons the ballon John Glenn’s 7 yard line and they would waste no time getting on the scoreboard. Jacob Kundinger would take the hand off from Bryson Huckeby and behind the offensive line of Ben Wellnitz, Gabe Blanchard, Blake Watson, Cole Wiese, Spence Cottrell, Luke Bercel, and Grant Bakos would walk in from 7 yards out. Jacon would add the extra point and 7:57 into the game Freeland would take a 7-0 lead.

On the next possession John Glenn would start out at their own 27 yard line and would be forced to punt again after a 3 and out. This time the Falcons would take advantage of a 12 yard punt and they would be in business again for the Bobcats 41 yard line. After a Bryson Huckeby 16 yd run, Easton Armstrong would take an inside handoff and follow his blockers all the way into the endzone for the 25yd TD run. Kundinger would add the PAT and with 4:56 to go in the first the Falcons would take a 14-0 lead.

John Glenn would take over their next possession from their own 27 yard line. The Bobcats would again get one first down, but would be forced to punt for the 3rd time in 3 possessions. This time the Bobcat’s punt would sail 20 yards and Freeland would get the short field again. After a 12 play drive, Bryson Huckeby would hook up with Grant Bakos for a 9yd TD catch. Kundinger would again add the PAT and with 8:54 to go in the half the Falcons would take a 21-0 lead.

After trading possession John Glenn would find something that worked. They took just 3 plays to travel 56yds and would run the ball in from 20yds out. The PAT would be good and the score would be 21-0 at the half.

The Falcons would get the ball first in the 3rd quarter, but fumble on their first touch. The Falcons defense would bail them out and force the Bobcats into another 3 and out. This time the Freeland would get the ball on the 17 yard line and take 10 plays to punch it in. Garrett Pistro would score from 1 yard out. Another Kundinger PAT would give Freeland the 28-7 lead with 5:36 to go in the 3rd.

On the next possession the Falcons would force yet another 3 and out, but just 3 plays later the Bobcats would capitalize on a Falcon interception. John Glenn would almost 6 minutes off the clock and would score their second TD from 5 yards out with 8:07 to go in the 4th to cut the lead to 28-14. Freeland would receive the kickoff and start their next drive on their own 28 yard line. After a first down run the Falcons would face a 3rd and 7 from their own 47 yard line when Bryson Huckeby would call his own number and race 63 yards down the right side line to paydirt. Kundinger would cap the scoring with his 5th PAT to end the scoring for the night at 35-14.

Freeland finishes the regular season 5-1 and 3-0 in the conference to claim their first conference title since 2016. The win also gives the Falcons the number 1 seed in the playoffs and will set them up for a chance to host 3 playoff games.
