Please answer extensively
- 1. 1.) Briefly recall highlights of the 2019 season; records, top moments etc.
11-1 record. Finished as league champs and district champs before losing to PW 36-35 in the regional finals.
- 2. 2.) Name some key athletes that have graduated from last season’s team and your remembrances on their contributions to the program.
- Avery Moore was a two time all state QB and was a three year starter. He led our team to a state title in 2018 and was a major contributor on both sides of the ball as well as his leadership abilities.
- Jacob Graves was an all state wide receiver and was a great all around football player on both sides of the ball. He had sure hands and always found a way to get open.
- Colby Hemgesberg was a two time all league lineman and really was a leader up front for us. He was the anchor of our oline last season and will be missed.
- 3. 3.) Please mention several athletes who are players so far this year…name, year in school, position. Your expectations from each of these athletes this season. (Feel free to attach a roster if one is available).
Cam Orr, SR, QB – Cam has huge shoes to fill coming in at QB but is up to the challenge. He is a big strong athlete with a great arm and know what it takes to win. He was the 215lb state champion in wrestling. He has what it takes to lead our team to another successful season.
Will Muron, SR, RB – Will is a three year varsity starter at RB and has been special mention all state the past two seasons. His speed and strength as a runner set him apart and make him one of the tops backs in the state. He will be our workhorse and will be a tough matchup for any team.
Julius Garza, SR, RB/LB – Julius is another three year varsity starter on both sides of the ball. He was named as first team all state LB last season by the MHSFCA. He again will be expected to lead our defense and be a matchup nightmare on the offensive side of the ball with his athletisism.
Will Taylor, Ryan Burtch, and Jacob Burgess all Senior returning offensive lineman. All three were named as all league lineman (Will 1st team and Ryan and Jacob both 2nd team). These three guys will anchor our line and have tremendous experience after making a long run a year ago. They will be expected to help lead our rushing attack.
Alec Mangino, SR, LB Alec returns as the leading tackler from a year ago as our MLB. He has a great nose for the ball and is one of the best reading LBs I have ever coached. With him and Julius our LB crew is a big strength of ours.
Garret Mangino, JR, RB/LB, Garret is the younger brother of Alec and has made quite a splash on to the varsity team early this year. He has showed tremendous speed and athletism on both sides of the ball and is expected to continue to handle a lot of duties on both sides.
Has your team met or exceeded expectations so far?
- So far this season our team has met expectation starting 2-0. We will look to continue to improve each week.
What will be your team’s strength?
- I think our running attack on the offensive side should continue to shine as we have two all state caliber backs with an experienced offensive line. Defensively I believe our front 7 is as good as we have ever had here at New Lothrop.
What are some things this team needs to work on?
Offensively, I believe the more games and experience we get under our belts the more dangerous we can be. Cam is continuing to grow as a QB and will continue to get better and better throughout the season.
Your conference: How strong is it and who would you consider the league favorites? Where do you see your team fitting into the league race?
I think we once again have a great opportunity to win a league title. However, Montrose has been a top team in Div 6 and is always a tough game. Ovid-Elsie and Durand are also improved this season and will be a tough out for any league opponent.
