Ovid-Elsie welcomed No. 3 State Ranked Byron on Tuesday night for an MMAC showdown, and lost 44-24. After a 9-7 first quarter, Byron ratcheted up their offense with a 10-3 second quarter to take a 19-10 lead at halftime. A 15-6 third quarter kept the Lady Marauders at bay, despite a 10-8 fourth quarter.
“We tried taking the air out of the ball tonight so we could limit their possessions,” said Head Coach Ryan Cunningham. “I thought we did a nice job overall but they’re just that good.”
Sarah Marvin scored 10 of the Eagles 19 points in the first half and 10 of the 25 in the second. Makayla Clement added 12 points, 7 of which came in that critical third stanza.
“Sarah is such a tough matchup,” Cunningham added. “We did our best but she still dominated.”
Caitlyn Walter led OE with 9 points while Lauren Barton added 7 for the Marauders. Kaylee Hall and Kiah Longoria each knocked down a triple while Braylon Byrnes added a bucket to round out the Marauder scoring.
Byron remains unbeaten on the year while OE drops to 8-4 (5-3 MMAC). OE will travel to Chesaning on Friday.
