Alma boys bowling coach Patrick O’Connor had a key graduate from last season but has high hopes for 2020.
“We lost our only senior last year Christian Manners, who was also our anchor bowler,” O’Connor said. “We also lost two other bowlers from last year for various reasons.
“Returning from last year are Tyler Atchinson and Malachi Scates. They picked up the game fast and have improved so much since the beginning of last year. Rounding out our lineup are Javan Scates, Joey Stankewitz and Cameron Snyder who are all brand new to bowling this year.”
As for 2020, “I expect this to be a foundation year as most of my team is brand new,” O’Connor said. “I have two returning who are still learning the sport and three who have never bowled before. This year is ultimately for them to learn the basics and to develop as young men. (Strengths will be) respect for the game and respect for others.”
The key for success will be “consistently hitting marks and consistently maintaining a positive attitude,” O’Connor said. “We are in a brand new conference (Tri-Valley East) this year that is harder than the conference we have been in for the past 12 years.”
Roster: Tyler Atchinson (sen); Malachi Scates (sen); Javan Scates (fresh); Joey Stankewitz (fresh); Cameron Snyder (jun).
