Megan Greenberg is coaching an Eaton Rapids volleyball team coming off a strong 2018 season.
“In 2018 the Varsity Volleyball team took 4th in the CAAC White and made it to the district finals where they ultimately fell to Marshall High School in three sets,” Greenberg said. “The team also won the Olivet Invitational and beat their rival Charlotte on three separate occasions. Six seniors graduated from our program last season. Ari Sysum, Breanna Rendon and Brooke Franco leave the team after spending four years on Varsity. Jordan Day, a three-year varsity athlete, is now beginning her college volleyball career at Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio. Brooke Hill was a two-year outside hitter and defensive specialist and Ashley Hendryx spent one year on varsity as a right side.
“With only two returning starters and a new head coach the Varsity team is going to be
relying greatly on strong senior leadership from Grace Lehto (MB), Emma Price (OH), Faith Hernandez (S), and Mackenzie Wyman (RS). We also expect big contributions from Junior Marissa Sharpe (L), Sophomore Adi Sysum (MB) and Freshman Rachel Steele (OH).
“The team has hopes of capturing both league and district titles. Our team’s strength will be senior leadership and the experience level of our other athletes. We hope to work together as a cohesive group to accomplish our goals this season both on and off the court. The team will need to work on our blocking as it has not been a main focus of the program before but with athletes prepared to perfect the techniques we are well equipped to be a strong blocking team by the end of the season.
“The CAAC White is a strong conference with six teams, the league favorites will most likely be Lansing Catholic as they won both the Varsity and Junior Varsity league titles in 2018. We hope to contend with Lansing Catholic as well as other strong teams in the league to fight for the first league title for Eaton Rapids Volleyball in several years.”
