Josh Gove is hoping for another strong season as boys tennis coach at St. Johns.
“Winning the tournament that we hosted as well as winning the Fowlerville Invitational and the Pinckney Invitational
Advancing to the State Finals for the 2nd straight year. I graduated 9 of my top 12 players. They were a phenomenal group of young men who always exhibited exceptional character and worked harder than any athletes I have coached so far in my career. Their attitudes, work ethic, and coachability will be greatly missed. Jack Pope (2 singles) Bobby Goerge (3 singles) Nate Wenzlick (4 singles) Jack Thalison and Alex George (1 doubles) Wes Cressman (2 doubles) Noah Rumney (3 doubles) Alex Pervine and Eric Jackson (4 doubles) Captains Bobby, Wes, Jack, and Alex were wonderful leaders and role models for the program.

“We have a very evenly skilled team and everyone will contribute, and all but 3 are brand new to the varsity level even though they are seniors. Key players this year will be Alex Owen, 10th, 1 singles; Jake Lasceski and Austin George, 10th, 1 doubles; Alex Pung and Oliver Glinke, 12th, 2 doubles. I have high expectations for them because I believe they can achieve a lot. I believe we will be top 2 or 3 in our conference and regional and hopefully return to the state finals. Our strength this year will be our depth as there is no big drop off. I also believe that the new varsity players will bring match confidence and experience after coming off of an undefeated JV season last year. We need to continue to work on our mental game and our physical fitness and endurance.

“In the CAAC Red I believe Haslett to be the top team and then it will be very competitive with ourselves, Mason, Fowlerville, and Williamston. Lansing Eastern is also in the conference.”

Our current/tentative lineup for the varsity is as follows:

1- Alex Owen, 10th
2- Jacob Heyer, 12th
3- Elliot Glinke, 11th
4- Jonah Rumney, 12th

1- Jake Lasceski and Austin George, 10th
