St. John’s girls golf coach Rick Schultz is optimistic over prospects for this season and in CAAC Red.
Last year, the team had its first undefeated dual season, won the league title.
Competed in the state finals for the 5th year in a row.
“Ellie Palmatier averaged an 86.3 and was our team captain,” Schulz said. “She was a wonderful leader and example to her teammates. Meg Purves was our social butterfly who loved to make everyone feel welcome and organized events for the girls to hang out.
“Tuesday Lewis, (senior) this year’s captain started golf her freshman year and was the league individual champion last season. She averaged a 44.6 last season. Teagan Sanders, (junior) has a lot of potential. She will be asked to perform at her best to keep her team competitive.”
The league race will be interesting.
“I expect to be in contention for the league title and for a top 3 finish at our regional in hopes to make it to another state final,” Schultz said. “Team comradery (is a strength). The girls do a great job communicating with each other and making everyone feel important. We have a lot of potential, but we have to stay away from blow up holes to remain competitive.
“The league is fairly strong. Haslett has some new girls who are coming in as experienced players, so I expect them to do well.”
