MILLINGTON – The Millington softball team hit their way to 31 runs on 27 base hits to sweep Division 2 Honorable Mention ranked Garber by the scores of 9-0 and 22-4.
Gabbie Sherman took the mound in Game 1 striking out 10 batters and allowing only one hit in picking up her sixth win of the year. The All-State pitcher also picked up a single and double in her three trips to the plate, to go along with her two RBIs.
Leah Denome led the team offensively picking up two singles and a double in her three trips. She also scored three runs. Sydney Bishop and Hannah Rabideau each had two hits. Leadoff hitter Darrien Roberts did the most she could with her one hit as she blasted a two-run home run in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Freshman Trinity Fessler picked up the last hit for the Cardinals.
Denome picked up the win in Game 2 in relief of starter Sabrina Gates. The All-State centerfielder struck out six batters and allowed only one hit in three and one-third innings of work. Denome was also solid at the plate in Game 2 as she had three hits (2B), scored two runs and drove in four runs.
Madi Hahn had a single, two doubles, and a solo home run to lead off the third inning. She also drove in three runs to increase her total to a team-leading 30 on the year. Her four hits increased to batting average to a team-leading .674 through the first 13 games.
Roberts (HR), Gates, and Fessler each had two hits. Bishop, Rabideau, and McKenna Slough each had one hit.
The top-ranked team in Division 3, Millington (13-0) will participate in the Michigan Stars Tournamnet on Saturday, May 4 at Creasey Bicentennial Park in Grand Blanc.
