LANSING CATHOLIC 21 FOWERVILLE 7

The Fowlerville Gladiators are the Cougars next opponent. The Cougars had a 6-4 series lead. Fowlerville had a 3-4 record this year, but seemed to play better competition. QB Geoffrey Knaggs was a good QB.

The first series was a shadow of the rest of the game. The first run was for negative yardage, the second play was a nice pass for 10 yards and the third play was an eight yard QB sack. The Gladiators had a few very nice plays, but no running game to speak of. Knaggs would be 11-30 passing (and three interceptions) was hurried in making bad passes 11 times, had five passes deflected and was sacked four times. But he had 140 yards passing.

The Cougars first series was an 11 play 68 yard TD drive. Charlie Nylander had four carries for 40 yards rushing in this drive to include the last five yards for the score.

Fowlerville responded with a 10 play drive that gained 33 yards, but no score. A bad snap by the Cougars at mid-field resulted in a fumble that was recovered by Fowlerville. They ran eight plays and went for it on fourth down twice, but a near interception by Kabbash Richards on the second fourth down attempt stopped that drive. They would try for it on fourth down six times in this game and make it twice.

Lansing Catholic then had a 10-play 74 yard TD drive (with 9 runs) and Nylander bulled through the line for the second score. The weather was wet and ball snaps were an adventure to include a bad snap for this extra point attempt. The next time Knaggs got the ball he threw a perfect 48 yard bomb with a minute left in the half and it looked like the Gladiators would score. But a QB sack and two hurried passes stopped that effort.

In the second series of the third quarter, Josh Kramer found Griffin Hotchkiss on a ten yard slant and he ran the next 35 yards for the last Cougar score.

The next set of possessions went like this ; Gladiator interception by Sam Edwards—on a second and four at the four yard line, Kramer had a pass that was tipped at the line and intercepted in the end zone—then a 14 play, 80 yard Gladiator drive that ended with a Knaggs 16 yard TD run. The Cougars then had a 14-play 60 yard drive that was stopped at the 10. The last series of the game ended at mid-field with an interception by Kramer. Another game that had a “bend but don’t break” flavor to it.

OFFENSE. Charlie Nylander had 11 carries for 87 yards and 2 TDs. Josh Kramer was 10-16 for 115 yards and threw a TD. Griffin Hotchkiss had 4 catches for 69 yards and a TD.

DEFENSE-. Kramer was the star for the defense also. He had 10 tackles, hurried a pass and had a game ending interception; it was his fourth interception for the year. He has ten for his career.

Freshman Bo Poljan also had 10 tackles, a QB sack and hurried two passes

Kabbash Richards had 3 tackles, a QB sack, a tackle for a loss, hurried two passes and almost had an interception.

SPECIAL TEAMS-.Connor Doyle had 64 kickoff and punt yards.
