The Beal City Varsity Cross Country athletes competed in the grade race format of the Clare Invitational on Wednesday, and 10 of 11 runners posted improvement over their opening 5k races at Chip Hills. Emma Gross (8th, 23:06.8) medaled with a top-10 finish in the freshman girls’ race followed by Rachal Weber (16th, 26:02.8) as Brandon Gross (16th, 23:06.7) and Logan Mishler (19th, 23:28.9) both dropped over 1:00 in the freshman boys’ race. Derek Gross (5th, 20:14.3) picked up hardware in the sophomore boys’ race followed by Matthew Kolb (12th, 20:52.7), Jacob Vollmar (15th, 22:23.3), and Matt Clark (19th, 23:32.7). In the junior race, Levi Eisenbach (12th, 19:40.4) and Nathan Reihl (14th, 20:20.3) both sliced more than a minute from their opening 5k times while the Aggies lone senior, Alex Taylor, ran to a third place medal in 17:34.8. The Aggies will look to continue to improve as they preview their Regional course at Shepherd’s John Bruder Classic on Sept. 5.
