AUBURN HILLS — Wrestlers are often overjoyed after claiming an individual state championship.

Then there’s Holt’s Kolin Leyrer.

The senior was so overarmed with joy that he gained another two-point takedown of one of his coaches.

Leyrer finished 41-2 for the season following a 6-4 decision over Dearborn Edsel Ford junior William Marano in the Division 1 160-pound title tilt to end his prep career in style.

Leyrer’s post-match victim was Holt assistant coach Rocky Shaft — his uncle.

“This is the most amazing thing I have ever felt in my life,” Leyrer said. “With Rocky being my uncle, this championship just means that much more. He knows how much I wanted this for me and him. He’s been there for me a long time.

“This is incredible — there’s nothing like it. The best feeling in the world,” continued Leyrer. “This is what you work for s a wrestler, to be here and win it.”
