Lansing Catholic Central’s boys cross country team came way short of its goal for a state title in Division 3 at the state finals, which took place at Michigan International Speedway.

Saugatuck easily took the title with a score of 61, and with a score of 137, Lansing Catholic easily took the second-place trophy over Hanover-Horton, which scored 182 points.

Ryan Schroeder led Lansing Catholic with 14th place in the team race (16:40.9), followed by Will Peters in 15th (16:41.3), Eli Meder, 29th (17:02.2); Eric Warriner, 38th (17:10.3); Ethan Markey, 41st (17:18); Sammy Migaldi, 42nd (17:18.1); and Aaron Kazmierski, 69th (17:38.6).

For individual standings, Schroeder and Peters placed 20th and 21st, respectively. Meder placed 40th, Warriner 52nd, Markey and Migaldi 58th and 59th and Kazmierski 102nd.

“I was decently happy with my time,” Schroeder said. “I know not everyone on my team ran the way they wanted to. I was happy personally with my performance. It was muddy; for us, I’m glad we raced early.”

“I thought I ran well,” Peters said. “Our team ran really well, even though some of us didn’t run the best of our ability, that’s reflected on the conditions. We all ran our hardest. The straight away was pretty muddy. That didn’t affect us too much. Last year we ran as a team faster, I don’t think everyone ran PRs (this year). Second place is not too bad in my opinion, it’s still great. I think we’ll come back strong next year.”
