Kyle Tuttle has already won two Division 4 state bowling titles, and the St. Charles junior no doubt wants to win two more and become only the third four-time state bowling champion.
But Tuttle realizes that state titles don’t come easily, and the breaks will have to keep coming his way, along with continuing his streak of excellent bowling. “It’s going pretty good,” he said. “We’ve had one conference loss. I’m doing about average; hopefully we can do better by the time regionals and state comes around.”
Tuttle said his conference average is around 195. It’s a lower average compared to this time last season. “It just kind of depends day to day,” he said. “Everyone has good days and off days.”
Tuttle has bowled three 300 games in the past two months during practices. “During high school season, I’ve never actually had one,” he said. “It’s just outside of high school bowling.” But bowling an official high school game of 300 before his prep career concludes is a definitely goal for Tuttle.
As for getting two more state titles, “I’ll worry about it when the time comes,” Tuttle said. “I’ll try to focus on myself and keep my goal in mind.”
Tuttle has had two fabulous high school seasons coming into this year. “They’ve gone pretty well,” he said. “In order to win, you have to have a little bit of luck, too.”
Division 4 has its fair share of good bowlers, and Tuttle realizes he needs to be at the top of his game. “It’s been my consistency and the ability to adjust to different conditions,” he said. “Normally [the lanes] are fairly easy.”
Tuttle works at a bowling alley and bowls in a youth league. In high school, he has focused only on bowling, and it’s paid off with two state titles so far. And Tuttle is hoping two more state championships are in his future.
