Rick Roberts has decided to step down as Sacred Heart Academy’s football coach after 23 years, closing a 40-year career coaching high school football.

Sacred Heart finished this past season at 6-4, and during the season, Roberts celebrated his 200th career win.

The Irish won the state title in 2010 with a 13-1 record. They qualified for the playoffs 19 of Roberts’ 23 seasons. They also won 18 Mid-State Activities Conference titles.

Roberts will continue as athletic director and still has other administrative and teaching duties at the school.

Prior to coming to Sacred Heart, Roberts was at Central Montcalm five years, including three years as head coach. He also spent seven seasons at Saranac and one at Vestaburg.
