Division 1
Bradley Tanner had three touchdown runs to lead Romeo to its first Division 1 state title. Romeo defeated Detroit Cass Technical, 41-27, on Nov. 28 at Ford Field.
Tanner’s scoring runs were from 20, 31, and 16 yards. The Bulldogs also scored on Paul Hurley’s 60-yard pass to Lucas Schimon and on touchdown runs of 10 yards by Domenico Bongiorno and 20 yards by Hurley.
Division 3
Brendan Tabone threw scoring passes of 34 and 16 yards to Kahlee Hamler, and Justin Myrick had two rushing touchdowns in St. Mary’s Preparatory’s 29-12 win over Chelsea on Nov. 28 at Ford Field.
It was St. Mary’s second straight Division 3 state title. It has won three state crowns since 2011 and has appeared in the finals six times since 2007.
Myrick scored on runs of 1 and 3 yards.
Chelsea had touchdown passes from Graham Kuras to Noah Vanreesema for 47 yards and from Jack Bush to Cameron Cooper for 14 yards.
Division 5
David Fox scored on three touchdown runs to lead West Catholic over River Rouge, 40-34, Nov. 28 in the Division 5 state championship game. The victory marked the third straight title for the Grand Rapids school.
River Rouge (12-2) was making its first title game appearance.
Fox had runs of 64 and 34 yards for touchdowns in the first half and of 12 yards in the second. Gaetano Vallone threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Hall, and Sam Neville had a 3-yard scoring run. The champions also had a safety and a field goal.
