When it came to field events, the Tri-Valley West Conference took center stage at the Division 4 boys state track and field finals. A total of three field athletes from the TVC West claimed state championships and helped their teams to finishes in the top 25 overall.
Kyle Smith of Breckenridge took first place in the discus with a toss of 149’0″. He also placed second in the shot put to help Breckenridge finish 10th as a team.
Merrill junior Jacob Kulhanek won the pole vault, as he cleared 13’7″ to help Merrill place 21st overall.
Michigan Lutheran Seminary junior Casey Williams captured the state title in the long jump with a leap of 22’9¼” to help Seminary place 12th as a team.
Following is a look at area boys who placed in the top eight in the state at the state track and field finals.
