Hey Sports Fans! It’s another great day at Sports Scene.

The countdown is on. Our sixth year in business is almost over. Can you believe it? I sure can’t.

Spring sports champions are about to be crowned, and some high school careers are about to come to a close.

Mr. Alex Grace, it has been a privilege to watch you run over the past four years. You continue to amaze, and being able to watch you mature into a great young man has been an honor.

Misses Taryn Taugher (Freeland), Ellie Juengel (Bullock Creek), Tania Davis (Goodrich), and Karrigan Smith (St. Johns), you four ladies are true leaders in your crafts. Your athletic abilities are impeccable. Your leadership, guidance, and pure love of the games in which you excel can’t be taught. You are the reason that we at Sports Scene do what we do. You will be missed greatly.

Finally, I want to give a big shout out to a great guy and an even bigger man. St. Louis’ Doug Steward is a giant of a man who has patrolled the local track scene for nearly 50 years. Mr. Steward is stepping away from track and field after this spring, but said he will be back in the fall for cross country. Doug, thank you for all that you do for the kids in your community. You are going to be missed tremendously, but now you can go watch your grandkids play the sports you helped influence. Doug’s grandson Rob Havenstein, who played his college football at the University of Wisconsin, was drafted in the second round by the St. Louis Rams. The apple definitely doesn’t fall far from the tree in that family. Doug, thanks again for all that you do for our student-athletes.
